Discussion: Leader's Roles in Supporting Data-Driven Decision Making
Healthcare leaders must understand and convey the importance of data-driven decision making to external and internal stakeholders. As mentioned in the resources for this week, the need for business analysts (data scientists) continues to grow both in management and in healthcare delivery.
For this Discussion, review the resources for this week, and reflect on a healthcare leader's roles in supporting data-driven decision making as well as potential challenges and ethical concerns that might exist.
Post your vision of a healthcare leader's roles in supporting data-driven decision making. Explain some of the challenges and ethical concerns that you believe might exist in the use of big data for decision making. Be specific and provide examples.

Data-driven decision-making is important in any organization, but as future leaders, there must be choices that should be made that need data to make the appropriate changes or choices for the organization. Decision-making based on data-driven information supports objective information to make difficult decisions (Norwich University, 2021). Leaders should gather all information as accurately as possible to ensure the right decisions are made. Decisions that leaders make will impact all areas of an organization. Gathering accurate data will be a team effort that will rely on key team members to submit the proper data to managers, which will then be reviewed for accuracy before submitting it to leaders to utilize.
Data helps identify threats or weaknesses, which can also help identify where the issues are coming from within the organization (Devine, 2019). The ability to identify issues is the main responsibility of leaders and find solutions to these issues quickly, not to allow those issues to create larger systemic problems. Good or bad information gathered is still data that helps determine areas that can be improved, structured better, or continue producing as it does. Information has a way to change organizations by simply looking at what that data is saying to us.
Healthcare leaders will have the opportunity to transform the organization by collecting and analyzing all data gathered to make the best decisions for the organization (Davenport & Mittal, 2020). Leaders must be prepared to accept and listen to all data. Hesitation has no room in data-driven management but questioning information is important to do in order to fully breakdown the information gathered to understand better the process of where and how the issues could be corrected or avoided altogether.

There has been varying proof showing that health IT reduces costs while improving the standard of care offered. The same factors that had caused delays in reaping benefits fro IT investment made in other sectors (i.e. time consuming procedural change) are also very common within the health care sector. Due to the current transitive nature of the Health care sector, new IT investment is likely not going to provide maximum value unless this new investment is backed up with a total reform of health care delivery. The overall ability of heath care IT value researchers to add value to practice will be severely limited as a result of the traditional ex-post approach to measuring IT and the fact that government spurs significant investment. It may be risky to generalize or compare results from traditional IT with those from health care due to the difference between them. It is broadly accepted that the key to improved health care quality and reduced cost in Health care Information Technology (Sherer, 2014). The idea of knowledge management as a probable solution to most of the problems confronting America and international health care system has emerged. Safety concern and quality of patient care, serious ineffectiveness, contrasting information principles technologies, rapidly growing costs and clinical information overload are some of these problems (Wills, 2010). The potential of IT in health care is increasing. Health care stakeholders like hospitals, medical practitioners, physicians, and consumers are faced with a myriad of concerns associated with IT use in health care.
