Introduction:
It is important to recognize and realize the requirements of a career choice and the most important thing, I would say, is knowing what you are interested in doing, what your future goals are so that you can plan for it better and choose your university major accordingly. I had always been interested in the Health Administration as a career choice, and thus, this led me to select my major in the Master of Health Administration. The decision of what you study and where you study the subject or major you choose from can help determine many important factors relating to how you will be educated regarding the subject. This also determines, to some extent, what kind of experiences will be provided to you to aid you in pursuing your career goals. My decision to take the master’s program was one of the superlative decisions in my life. I knew that the master’s program would be a significant milestone in my career. The courses that I have taken in the master’s program are very relevant to my future career aspirations. Bearing in mind that my passion is in the healthcare sector, I felt that a master’s degree would be a great addition that would enable me to fit well in the health sector.
Career Goals:
When deciding on pursuing a Master of Health Administration, I set certain career goals for myself that I want to achieve. I set these goals when I started to study at the University of Ottawa. These career goals are motivated by my values and aim in life, guiding my decisions and determination to work hard. The first goal that I want to achieve is one that requires continuous effort throughout my career, and that is to improve work performance throughout my career through working hard at every job or learning opportunity that I get. In the health administration work, it is crucial to maintain good relationships with the people that you are working with, to improve the quality of work. I believe it is necessary to strengthen professional relationships; thus, I want to achieve this career goal. Other career goals that I have are to attain a higher job role and to gain new experiences. The way to accomplish those goals is through work on learning and gaining knowledge related to health administration and management and to try to get accreditations related to the field. I want to work in the health administration sector to improve the management systems employed in healthcare organizations, updating them to be able to keep up with the large amounts of information related to the patients and the employees, using technology to make it easier to execute and handle the tasks and information.
The Work in the master’s Program that is Preparing me for my Future Career Goals
To my understanding, one needs to have diverse courses in healthcare provision that will propel him into achieving formulated career goals. These courses may include; healthcare informatics which resonates around business intelligence, healthcare information systems, and data analyst; healthcare management which includes courses like healthcare policy, health insurance and managed care; healthcare financial management which includes budgeting and forecasting of healthcare services finances and lastly, healthcare law that deals with legislation and regulation of health care which requires qualified healthcare providers. I aim to acquire several healthcare courses that will prepare me to achieve my career goals with ease. Because I am a diligent person, I will identify courses that are helpful in the provision of quality healthcare and are pocket-friendly to healthcare consumers.
In addition to identifying several helpful courses, I am committed to improving my performance in this program by dedicating a lot of time studying to have a broader perspective of the healthcare administration. I am targeting to read scientific publications, journals, and books to acquire more information that is in line with my career goals. I will consult my instructors whenever I encounter challenging concepts, and I am certain they will be helpful in my journey of attaining my professional goals. I will take advantage of various opportunities that are related to health care management and a healthcare law that will help me sharpen my skills in these areas. I will attend various healthcare symposiums that are themed around my study and my career objectives.
The master’s work has enabled me to build critical skills in leadership. One of the most important things that I have learned from the master’s work is the healthcare environment. Even though I have experience working in a healthcare system. I realize that there is a lot that I need to know about the healthcare system. It has helped me to appreciate the interrelationships that exist between the different departments in healthcare organizations.
I came to realize that the functions of the different departments are complementary. This is an essential addition to my career goal. It will help me to advance in my career and become a better leader in the healthcare system.
Work History that has Prepared me for my Future Career Goals
Practical work experience is the best way to learn and understand the processes; what needs to be done and how it should be done. I worked in the healthcare industry for 8 years which helped me immensely in identifying my goals and achieve them. The work in the management sector of healthcare enabled me to apply my skills in practice and work to improve the systems of the hospital, participate in the planning work of the hospital and its systems. Understanding the structure of healthcare organizations is crucial to working in this field and progressing, this work experience allowed me to be able to that and how to apply my knowledge and skills in the best way I can to achieve my career and professional goals in the health sector.
Conclusion:
The professional degree in Master of Health Administration has allowed me to be able to experience a multitude of professional opportunities and be exposed to the information and knowledge that is necessary to be able to work in the health administration sector. By choosing this major, it has helped me immensely in being able to pursue my career goals and apply them in professional settings in the areas that I have an interest in and achieve the skills to execute it effectively.
