A discussion needs to be written. Instructions and rubric are attached.
Instructions
Each student will submit an initial discussion post of approximately 750-1000 words in the discussion. Support your discussion with at least 5 references, the majority of which should be peer-reviewed. Primary references should be published within the last five (5) years. No title page is required.
/3 Describe how barring APRNs from full practice authority affects (a) healthcare costs, (b) access to and/or delivery of care, and (c) quality of care. Discuss each required factor individually and support your conclusions with current research data and examples.
/3 Discuss several ways that the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) increases access to care while promoting public safety. (The connections you include are up to you, but since we deal with natural disaster often on the gulf coast, you may consider addressing this in your discussion or our current global health crisis.) Based on your research of both the NLC and APRN compact licensure, what impact can we anticipate APRN compact licensure to make? This may include client care, education, or administrative perspectives.
/2 Discuss the status of implementation of the APRN Consensus Model in your home state or the state where you currently reside. This section should include all of the following:
· What titles are used for APRNs? Are all four APRN roles recognized in your state? If not, which roles are not recognized?
· Is the term "licensure" used for APRN roles in your state? If not, what term(s) are used?
· Is a graduate or post graduate degree required in your state to practice in an advanced practice role?
· Is national certification required in your state to practice in an advanced practice role?
· Do APRN roles allow for independent practice in your state? Not independent? No authority?
· Do the APRN roles allow for independent prescribing in your state? Not independent? No authority?
/2 If you were responsible for evaluating positive change regarding the full realization of the APRN role, what outcomes would signify progression in the resolution of APRN barriers? To answer this question develop a (a) patient-based, (b) system-based, and (c) policy-based outcome that would guide your evaluation into your discussion. Provide support from the literature for each. See diagram in Required Resources for examples of each type of outcome.
/1.5 Identify and discuss legislation in your state legislature regarding the APRN role. Include the bill number and title as applicable.
· Is there legislation currently being proposed in your state legislature regarding the APRN role? Has there been previous state legislation that has failed? To find out, go to
LegiScan (Links to an external site.)
and search for current state legislation. Use search terms such as "nurse", "nursing", "APRN," etc. Discuss your findings.

Full Practice Authority
1. Discussion regarding the implications of barring APRNs from full-practice authority.
2. Addresses (a) healthcare costs, (b) access to and/or delivery of care, and (c) quality of care.
3.0 pts
Fully Met
The discussion is well developed and clearly describes how each of the following factors are affected by allowing APRNs to have full practice authority: (a) healthcare costs, (b) access to care, (c) delivery of care, and (d) quality of care. Each component of the discussion is supported with peer-reviewed literature.
2.0 pts
Partially Met
The discussion is missing a factor or requires additional development, as evidenced by only addressing that the mentioned factors are affected by barring full practice authority but not describing how. Additional support required for conclusions.
1.0 pts
Minimally Met
Two (2) or more of the required factors are missing or support for the factors is absent or minimal.
0.0 pts
Not Met
The section is absent, minimally developed, or addresses material other than what was required.

Nurse Licensure Compact
1. Discuss the impact of the NLC on access and safety.
2. Make inferences about the outcomes of an APRN compact.
3.0 pts
Fully Met
The discussion addresses how the NLC affects multiple aspects of access to care and safety. The student uses available evidence to make educated predictions about the impact of an APRN compact. Support from the evidence for conclusions is provided.
2.0 pts
Partially Met
The student addresses each of the posed questions. Connections between the provided evidence and the student's conclusions are unclear or support from the evidence could be improved. Alternatively, although sufficiently developed and supported, the student only addresses one of the required questions.
1.0 pts
Minimally Met
The student addresses one of the posed questions but not the other: NLC or APRN compact. In addition, support provided is inadequately developed or unclear in its relationship to the task.

1.5 pts
Partially Met
The student address all three of the outcome types as required but displays some misunderstanding about the type of support that is appropriate for each.
0.5 pts
Minimally Met
The section does not clearly include a statement for each of the assigned categories and/or support is absent or minimal.
