Think about it: You will be spending one -third of your waking life in your job. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to begin to think seriously about your career prospects now. You don’t want to find yourself working as a barista after 4 years of business school, unless , of course, you’re planning on starting the next Starbucks. So start here. Are you interested in a career in MIS? At this point, you don’t know enough to know, but the lecture slide showing you the growth trend of computer and systems -related jobs should catch your attention. With job growt h like that, you should at least ponder whether there is a career for you in IS and related services. The following chart provides a framework for thinking about careers in an unconventional way. As you can see, there are technical jobs in MIS, but fasci nating, challenging, high -paying, nontechnical ones as well. Consider, for example, professional sales. Suppose you have the job of selling enterprise -class software to the Mayo Clinic. You will sell to intelligent, highly motivated professionals, with tens of millions of dollars to spend. Or suppose you work for the Mayo Clinic, on the receiving end of that sales pitch. How will you spend your tens of millions? You will need knowledge of your business, and you will also need to understand enough tech nology to ask intelligent questions and interpret the responses. You should always include your name on the assignment as well as the title of the assignment.  Citations and References : If you used external references, the full reference is in the proper format with the necessary information. You cited those references appropriately within the content of your paper. If you use external references, you MUST include the full reference. You also need to cite the source within your paper. For citations, you can either directly quote the source when the author has something profound to say or you can reword the information fr om the source when the author has a unique idea. In either case, give credit to the author for the quotation or the unique idea but the bulk of your paper should be you expounding on the author’s ideas with your own words and ideas. Do not over -cite your p aper. You should research the topic, process the information you learn, present your response to the assignment in your own words, and support that response with citations from your sources. Do not cite every sentence/paragraph of your assignment.  Spellin g and Grammar : There are few or no spelling or grammar errors. Everyone makes mistakes; therefore, you will receive full points if there are minimal spelling and grammar errors. Use correct spelling and grammar. The instructor does check for spelling and grammatical errors. The instructor will not correct spelling and grammar for you, but you will los e points if it is not correct.
