Capstone - Dancer 17 - English
Due: March 28th @ 11:59PM
Attention! Part 1 and 2 of this BIG project have been completed, but I didn’t get a good grade due to the following reasons:
Feedback from part 1: - (Part one is attached)
Good overview of media violence, but you didnt choose an event. There are no citations aside from the textbook, but that doesnt count. The assignment states:
You will need to do substantial research to support your claims before you start writing. and You will need to do research outside of your textbook.
This doesnt fulfill the assignment.
Feedback from part 2: - (Part two is attached)
Where is the analysis of media coverage of your event? This is a general analysis of media violence, and although the analysis is very good, this is not what the assignment is asking for.
You were meant to compare and contrast your topic with how it was portrayed from a local, national, and global standpoint. This essay does not follow this direction or answer any of the essay questions and is not acceptable work.
***Now Part 3 must be completed. It needs more research and resources***
Capstone Project (50\%)
The Capstone Project will be divided into four (4) parts:
Part 1: Introduction 10\% (800 words)
Part 2: Case Study 15\% (800 words)
Part 3: Final Paper 15\% (800 words)
Part 4: Oral Presentation Video 10\% (2 minutes max.)
For the capstone project, students will select a major headline/event that has sparked controversy in the media and pick one of the six issues identified and outlined in the text and write an introduction, a case study, a final paper and submit an oral presentation video as a capstone project.
*I have chosen:
Media Violence
Part 1: Introduction - ***Done as mentioned above*
Write an essay in APA style that analyzes and further develops your topic based on a major headline/news event from one of the six themes: Ownership of Mass Media Businesses, Sports, Fake News, Advertising, Media Violence, or Privacy. You will need to do research outside of your textbook across various information systems.
Your essay will have 800 words and identify the key ideas of the event.
How did the media shape the event/story?
How did others react to the way it was portrayed in the media?
Did others create movements based on the way the media portrayed the event?
Did people react differently in other parts of the world?
How was the event shaped by various information systems?
Part 2: Case Study - ***Done as mentioned above*
For this part of the project, you’re going to continue using the same topic/event that was used in Capstone Part #1 and do a compare-and-contrast case study. It will require you to view your topic from three different angles: locally, nationally, and globally. Your case study should be written in APA style, have 800 words, and compare and contrast your topic with how it was portrayed from a local, national, and global standpoint.
Was there a difference with media coverage about your topic in other parts of the world?
Were the reactions from consumers varied in other parts of the world?
Did different movements happen in other parts of the world based on the topic/event?
What were the similarities?
What were the differences?
Part 3: Final Paper - THIS IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!
To do:
- Read Issue 5 FROM BOOK - Page. 630
- Review Part 1 and 2s feedback (Check essay if needed). This will help in not making the same mistakes.
- Follow the format
- answer the questions asked
- do not exceed word count
This part of the Capstone Project will require you to reflect on your capstone project case and what you learned so far about media literacy. Your final paper should be in APA style, will have 800 words and answer the following:
How did the process of researching influence your understanding as it relates to media literacy?
Explain how you became more media literate after researching your topic.
Expound on how your view shifted as it relates to media literacy after completing this project.
Describe how the project changed your perspective on how media outlets persuade you in viewing and reacting to their content.
What local and international organizations work on the issue of media literacy? Which of those work on themes related to your capstone project case? How can people get involved with them? Provide contact information and relevant projects or initiatives. Propose an idea for a specific initiative that would increase media literacy among a specific audience around the case you analyzed for your capstone project. (This section of your final paper will be used to assess the Global Engagement Outcome for Global Learning)Media Literacy

Violence in The Media
Media violence is something that has been around since the time of when films and other forms of entertainment first originated. As films become higher quality and better able to advance, this has been one of the reasons violence continues to be seen in the media. The argument is that violence is necessary in film to tell effective storytelling, but this is only true to some extent. For these reasons and more, there have been several arguments surrounding this topic.
The issue regarding violence in the media is frequently argued with the criticism that there is too much violence being portrayed on the screen. While this issue has always been a concern, it seems as if violence is only becoming more evident in the media with more realistic demonstrations. Regarding the issue of media violence, there are two sides to the equation. One of these sides are the group that believes media violence is a problem. Then, there is the other side that believes violence is necessary for certain storytelling and films. Therefore, there is a substantial amount of controversy surrounding this topic.
In some instances, many could argue that some characters are ugly and require this type of aggression to tell a good story. When the public complains that the media is presenting too much violence in their stories, they are not directly complaining about the amount of violence—they are complaining about specific scenes that offend them. However, the goal with films and other forms of media entertainment is to be realistic and to portray real life events. In some stories, it is essential that a story is told exactly the way it happened, which may often include violence. The way that violence is portrayed in the media is often misrepresented with the way that our society is sensitive in viewing certain scenes and topics.
Therefore, the topic of violence in the media is one that is very controversial and we quires a lot of thought and open mind. In some cases, and arguments, people may argue that violence in the media is a direct influence on what is happening around the world now. However, this is unfair because regardless of whether the media shows violence or not, it will still be seen on the news and etc. While there havent been any specific movements related to this topic of media violence, there has been an uproar of upset parents for example, who do not want their kids to see violence when watching TV. This has been rearranged through several different methods including moving these types of films and TV shows to premium channels or scheduling them late at night when younger viewers are usually sleeping.
Along with this there have been groups and communities dedicated to minimizing violence on TV or in the media in the form of internets or technological displays. In other parRunning head: Media violence 1

Violence in the Media
Media violence affects people differently, depending on the demonstration and responses. There has been much speculation regarding media violence, along with the possibility that it may be influencing audiences. Violence in the media is something that has increased throughout its origin and reaching levels that are graphic and perhaps too far. According to a publication by the Psychiatric Times, The average American watches nearly 5 hours of video each day, 98\% of which is watched on a traditional television set, according to Nielsen Company. (Violence in the media: What effects on behavior?). The impact media violence has caused is a topic that is worldwide.
In the United States especially, media violence is something that has been censored or rated for specific ages to view. Media violence has transitioned throughout every decade and has now advanced to entertainment, digital media, and video games. According to an article published by the World Health Organization (WHO), the use of media violence is described as “the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation.” (Definition and typology of violence 2011). However, despite the negativities revolving the subject of media violence, there is the argument that this can be useful for effective storytelling. Not only this, but television and blockbuster ratings have proven that there are a large number of viewers for content featuring violence.
People endure into entertainment to escape reality and to be entertained by the characters and storyline being displayed on screen. For this reason, using violence to ensure there is an emotional reaction to the media representation is sometimes useful. Aside from there being plenty reactions to media violence in the United States, other parts of the world react differently to it. For instance, in Africa there is an ongoing trend of violent action films which spreads messages about their politics. In other countries, like the Middle East, there have been independently produced films that talk about the war from their perspective.
Quite often, the complaints surrounding media violence have to do with people not wanting to see such content. To some extent, this is an unreasonable argument for the reason that films and other media content have ratings on them that state what type of adult content will be featured. As a result of such ratings, it is possible to simply avoid viewing content that features violence and other thematic material. Not only this, but parents can enable parental controls if they do not wish for their children to view such content. Even family related programs like Ma
