Description of Target Community. Describe, succinctly, the “community” that you perceive can be targeted to meet the selected HP 2020 Objective.  Community means the target population that is within your reach and that is at risk for not meeting this HP 2020 objective. Describe the following: Stated target objective from HP 2020 (Same as assignment #1 targeted objective).Review Healthy People 2020 documents and the objectives from 2020 Topics and Objectives (Objectives A–Z) Link:  https://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/topics-objectives (Links to an external site.). Description of your community at the city or county or municipality level; in other words, “who are these people?” in terms of demographics; you can typically find this demographic data from census databases or other national or local databases or information that is within the public domain.   You must include important epidemiological person, place and time information about your target community.  This includes the target population size and target population demographics.  Include local incidence and prevalence rates of health outcomes that are directly related to your chosen Healthy People 2020 health behavior. *With regards to the “community”, I strongly recommend you target a relatively narrow segment or community.  For example, it would be advisable to choose to target the issue of underage drinking and subsequent car crashes in a target community within your county, city, town or local school district versus addressing this issue by choosing a chosen target community of your entire state.  2.  Description of Your Health Promotion Program and Sample Size (a) Provide detailed and specific information about your chosen “Building Your Own Health Promotion Program” intervention sample group in whom you plan on being your program participants in your eventually implemented Building a Health Promotion Program Project. This program intervention sample should be taken from within your chosen target community. You MUST provide a SPECIFIC INTERVENTION SAMPLE SIZE AND A SPECIFIC SAMPLE INTERVENTION LOCATION AND A SPECIFIC SAMPLE INTERVENTION START DATE AND COMPLETION DATE.  This will specify when the program’s intervention sample subjects will begin the program and begin to have activities administered to them.  This will also describe the completion date of the program.   You will eventually have specific health promotion program educational activities and components that you will develop and administer during the implementation period of your program.  If you decide to implement your program in a school or worksite or hospital or community center or place of worship or clinic within your target community then you must obtain try to obtain important descriptive statistical information and demographic information about your sample from the site manager or overseer.  For example, if you decide to implement an obesity prevention program that targets first and second graders in your city because the city or county or state statistics reveal high child obesity prevalence rates in this area, then you may choose to implement your program at a local elementary school.  Your intervention sample would be first and second grade classes in this particular elementary school.  You will seek to gather basic information about the number of first and second graders in your chosen school and also seek to gather basic demographic data about the school population if at all possible.  Try to choose an intervention sample in which you will be able to research and find and report on all of this important demographic data.  This data will be important for your stakeholders as well as for your program planning. 3. Proposed Program. Conclude this proposal with a brief discussion of your idea for a health promotion program plan to meet your HP 2020/2010 objective, health behavior and associated health indicator (assuming the results of your needs assessment indicate a need).  Please use three (3) sources of research supporting this type of programINTRODUCTION TO TARGET COMMUNITY AND PROGRAM INTERVENTION SAMPLE AND PROGRAM 2 INTRODUCTION TO THE TARGETED COMMUNITY Targeted Objective Specific HP 2020 objective: Obesity/Physical Activity and Nutrition. Targeted Behavior: Improve health, fitness, and quality of life through daily physical activity and nutrition. Specific target population and age and geographical area: Middle school students/ages 10-14/ Lauderhill, Florida in Boward County. Description of Targeted Community The researcher’s targeted location was built in 1957, it was part of the flourishing suburbs of a southeastern Florida city, but, now, it has become part of a lower income urban neighborhood. Currently, the school’s population stands at 1,391. The school’s demographics include 88\% African American, 6\% Hispanic, 4\% White, and 1\% multicultural students. Indian and Asian students account for less than 1\%. Many of the students at the school seriously lack knowledge about health issues that may affect their lives due to obesity and the impact it has on the world today. Therefore, the need for integrating physical education and health education into this middle school’s curriculum is very relevant. The psychological and social consequences of being overweight in a society preoccupied with thinness can be severe and enduring. Core aspects of psychological functioning such as self- esteem and body image can be affected; mood problems such as depression can occur; social discrimination is common; and long-term negative associations of being overweight with college admissions, employment opportunities, and income have been documented (Bar-Or et al., 1998). Children spend a large portion of their day in school. Because many of the lifestyles and behaviors choices associated with obesity develop during school-age years, a child’s food intake 3 and physical activity at school are important determinants of body weight. By providing meals, physical activity, and health education, school policies can help prevent childhood obesity (Carter, 2002). Garn (2002) stated, “Obesity is a relative term used to describe the condition where the ratio of body fat, which is measurable, to total body mass is higher than accepted norm” (p. 1). The terms obesity and overweight are often used interchangeably, but their technical definitions are different. According to Garn, “Overweight refers to an excess of body weight that includes all tissues--fat, bone, and muscle. Obesity refers specifically to an excess of body fat” (p. 1). Schools are learning environments for developing and practicing lifelong behaviors. The entire school environment must be aligned with healthy goals before the school can positively impact a student’s knowledge base, beliefs, and habits as they relate to good nutrition and physical activity. These common goals bring the school cafeteria8 PRELIMINARY NEEDS ASSESSMENT Michael Daley FIU HAS 4140 Dr. Chanadra Young-Whiting 2/7/2021 PRELIMINARY NEEDS ASSESSMENT Targeted Objective Specific HP 2010 objective: Tobacco Use Targeted behavior: Increase the awareness of the dangers related to tobacco use and provision of education and facts and figures to the people to decrease the use of this drug in the future. Specific target population: Individuals over 18 years old. Purpose of Needs Assessment Tobacco is a plant that is highly valued for its leaves. These leaves, known as tobacco leaves, are used for making drugs, the most common of which is the tobacco cigarettes (ODPHP, 2020). These death packs contain small bundles of dried-up tobacco leaves, which, when burned, are used by the smokers to satisfy their needs. It includes many harmful chemicals like nicotine that have a negative effect on the human body and can result in a lot of fatal diseases like cancer. The use of tobacco has been a part of almost every society on earth for more than a century. This nicotine-packed drug is consumed by millions of people daily, and sadly, with each passing day, the number of its users is also increasing. It can arguably be said that this drug has claimed more lives than any other drug available in the streets, and there is no practical way found, until now, that can stop the masses from continuing its use. This assignment aims to get an inside look as to the causes of tobacco use, how it affects the human body, and the steps that can be taken to prevent the users from using it in the future. There are many ways through which the use of this poison can be minimized, but because of its excessive use and presumably minimal harmful effect, combined with the high demand and cheap pricing, most of these ways never go mainstream (Antigona C. Trofor, 2018). Those who do make it to the top of the surface have little to no effect on the masses because of not being taken severely by those who can make a difference. In just the last five to six years, approximately 20 million Americans have died due to reasons which were directly related to smoking. From this, it is not hard to imagine the sheer size and number of people worldwide who die from this seemingly ordinary drug yearly. And millions more fall victim to these drugs every year, which results in various crimes, among many other undesirable things. This assessment is critical in order to raise awareness about the seriousness of this issue and save lives in the future. Health Risks of Tobacco Use There are a lot of risks associated with the use of the potentially lethal drug. The most common of all is lung cancer. One of the significant downsides of this drug is that it slowly affects the consumers body from the inside. There are no immediate side effects right away, but after the continuous use of this drug, the consumers body is slowly poisoned from inside. In the worst-case scenario, thL.
