use the theories from TEXTBOOK to do recommendations, also use both numerical SCORES and text for MARKKULA for each e.g.  utility-10 &text etc. Let me know  . due 8/16Details, rubric, sample, worksheet attachedThis exemplary case analysis   Download exemplary case analysisof BP and Deepwater Horizon from a student in an earlier MGT 302 class is useful as comparison to your work so far.  After reviewing this and the feedback from your peer reviewers, think about the ways you would have improved your work in the last two weeks, and how you will approach later case analyses to improve.   By the way, this sample case analysis is excellent but not perfect.  Management decision making is an art as much as science.  For science, we rely on management principles.  The art of decision making relies on understanding how decisions will affect the organization in the short- and long-term.Case Analysis – MGT 302 2 This assignment has two elements: the worksheet and the ethical analysis. The worksheet is an analysis: understand the significant problems; discern the surface and underlying causes and; and develop recommendations for improvement explicitly based on management principles. Demonstrate your understanding of ethical systems in the ethical analysis section that follows. This is a synthesis section, in which the various recommendations above are considered as a whole (through the Markkula process). Worksheet Instructions. This worksheet follows the format of the case study videos posted in the course. Type directly in the cells of the worksheet, which will expand as you type. Say as much as you need in each cell for a full analysis. Describe each significant symptom (i.e., a problem or case fact) in its own cell (left column). These should be significant symptoms, “the vital few” problems that, if fixed, would greatly improve the organization. Then, discuss what causes the symptoms. Look for layers, i.e., surface causes and underlying ones. Then develop recommendations. Recommendations must be based on management principles, not merely personal opinion, with the management principle clearly explained. In the right-hand column, (a) explain your recommendation, (b) then the management principle on which is it based, and (c) explain how and why that principle is relevant (how it relates to the symptom and its causes). There can be more than one recommendation/principle for one symptom. Ethical Analysis. In this section discuss the ethical implications of your recommendations, explicitly based on the Markkula process, discussing your decisions at each step of the analysis, i.e., each ethical theory that you analyze your recommendations against. Your Worksheet and Ethical Analysis Your Name(s): Case Title: Describe the symptom (problem i.e., case fact) Causes—both surface and underlying Recommendations for improvements and mgt. principles used Note. To add more rows, click on the empty cell in the lower right, and press the Tab key. No need to delete any unused rows. Ethical Implications of Recommendations (Explain your Markkula analysis, i.e., why you set the pointers where you did.) Utility: Rights: Justice: Common Good: Virtue: Overall synthesis of the perspectives and conclusions, and any changes to recommendations as a result: Revised Oct. 2020 by Dr. Ball ([email protected]).Worksheet for Case Analysis (MGT 302). This worksheet follows the format of the case study videos posted in the Course Policies module. Type each significant symptom in its own cell (left column) and complete the rest of the row, demonstrating your ability to correctly apply management principles. Move on to the last page once you have completed the worksheet. In your analysis, use all applicable theories from the readings through the current week, to gain experience in more holistic use of theory in case analysis. (See the video on case study analysis in Course Policies for more on each column.) Before each symptom, it might help you to ensure you have covered the relevant theory bases to include the category of P-O-L-C and sub-category in which the symptom best fits. Use these (taken from the text organization: P (planning): V (vision & mission); S (strategizing); G (goals & objectives). O (organizing): O (organizational design); C (culture); S (social networks). L (leading): L (leadership); D (decision making); C (communications), GT (groups & teams); M (motivation). C (controlling): S (systems & processes); SHR (strategic human resources). For example, “O/C” would mean culture within the Organizing frame, whereas “L/C” would mean communication in the Leading frame. Or you can write “leading/communications” if you prefer. Your Names: [Name Redacted] Case Title: BP AND THE DEEPWATER HORIZON DISASTER OF 2010 Symptom (case fact) P-O-L-C* Surface Cause Underlying Cause Theoretical Basis P/V-Multiple issues with unsafe work environment. Message of safety not properly communicated to the staff. Message of safety included in the mission and vision diluted to the staff, and safety became not identified in the core values of the company. Transformational leadership theory- the leaders needed to do a better job of making sure the goals the corporation or the goals of the employees and managers also. O/C- lack of communication between asset managers. No incentive to share information with other departments. Layers of management eliminated managers are compensated for performance so sharing ideas is not profitable. Motivation theory, the managers knew that the more effort that they put into making their particular job profitable. The more they would get back out of it and there was no benefit in sharing with other companies. L/C-Multiple safety breaches Maintenance and safety measures not being done. BP cut back on maintenance and safety to cut cost. Reinforcement theory had BP put in compensations for meeting safety goals. Perhaps managers would put more effort into making sure that their team knew that safety was important to the mission and vision of the company. O/O-decisions being made that undercut mission and vision of the company. Company reorganized removing several layers of management.
