Hello Prof & Class,
Covert operation and surveillance is the act of watching somebody or something without their knowledge; it is more like spying. Their uses have become very common in the current days with a lot of security firms, government security agencies, and individuals using them to carry out their investigative and law enforcement operations. It is mainly installed to spy on a group of persons or an individual who is suspected to be secretly engaging in illegal activities. Today, most criminals have become very smart using every means to cover their tracks which makes it difficult for law enforcement agencies to have enough grounds to warrant arrest. Covert surveillance is the best way to gather information which when collected and analyzed with other information can inform you on individual behavior or the real state of a particular situation.
Advantages
· Covert operations and surveillance are a discreet technique of research and the skills and technology utilized in covert operations are unconventional which makes the operation blends effortlessly into the given setting.
· In covert operations and surveillance minimal manpower is required for covert operations.
· The covert operations and surveillance method is cost-effective since there is less manpower involved due to the presence of the technology.
Disadvantages
· Covert operations and surveillance technology usually interfere with peoples private lives. This interference leads to nefarious application utilization that brings about mistrust.
· To put the Covert operations and surveillance technology in place one has to obey the rules and regulations that the government has put in place and that means that one has to get licensed to use this kind of technology.

There are many methods an investigator can use when trying to uncover fraud and finding the enough evidence to prove it. Sometimes an investigation may involve two uncommon methods of obtaining evidence. The method of using covert operation and surveillance is used when an investigator is watching and/or following someone without their knowledge. These observations by the investigator can be used as evidence in court. The advantages of using such methods of investigation is the ability to possibly catch the perpetrator
in the act of committing or concealing the fraud. Another important factor is that the investigator would be able to observe how the potential perpetrator behaves when he/she does not know he is being followed or recorded. The advantages of using covert operations and surveillance in a fraud investigation is that it is a discreet method of investigation and the technology used in covert operations is advanced which blends easily into the given environment . Very little manpower is required for covert operations and surveillance and the cost of technology used for covert operations and surveillance is easily affordable .The disadvantages of using covert operations and surveillance is that the technology intervene in the private life of people and lead to nefarious application use which in general fosters a lack of trust.

Hello Prof,
Identity theft is a form of crime that involves getting information about another person in a wrong way and using it to commit crimes using this information. Examples of information that can be stolen include the credit card number, identifying number among other things. Identity theft can occur in many forms that include criminal identity theft, financial and medical identity card theft.
Identity theft mainly began in 1900 even before the use of the internet and social media became commonly used. In the early times, the people who practiced identity theft murdered their victims but when the internet and social media came into place, the crime revolving around identity theft increased in intensity.
There are various challenges that are encountered when dealing with identity thefts. First, one can fail to catch the person who is using the identity of another person in committing a crime and thus it becomes risky. Another challenge one can face is arresting the wrong person due to a lack of evidence that another person is using his information to commit a crime. Also, there can be data losses especially when the identity theft has been done online and this can be a very huge challenge.
There are various resources that are required when doing investigations regarding cybercrimes. Examples of these resources include the Gogh Technology Crime Investigation Unit, the FBI, high intelligence crime analysts, field officers, and computer specialists among other people.
There are resources that individuals would want to recover during the identity theft crime. To begin with, the individuals should give notice to the affected banks. Secondly, the individuals should confirm the credit reports. Thirdly, one should report the matter to the authorities and lastly, one should change all his/her passwords regarding their personal information.
A good example of identity theft is when thieves drain the bank account of a person because they got the personal information of the individual.
One way to prevent identity theft for instance bank account drainage is through freezing the accounts. Freezing the account will ensure that the crimes of identity theft cannot be repeated again. Additionally, one can create strong passwords for their personal accounts.
