Everyone is different, what makes one think they were effective was constantly improving working relationships within a team, developing effective communication skills, and motivating their employees (Motoi, 2017). Their three skills or strengths that made them effective were forward planning and strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving and decision making. There are usually five ways to measure the success of the managers such as employees surveys, their team’s overall performance, surveys of job candidates, their team’s turnover rate, and the staff turnover and staff morale figures. The measure of a managers success is very important in any organization as it shows how effective the manager is. Three things that one can learn from a manager as he/she adopts his/her management style are delegation, team-building and honesty. Delegation can occur when an organization has a less formal chain of authority (Sev, 2017). While team building can be enhanced by building trust and respect, cultivate open communication, recognize good work and encourage socialization. Finally, honesty can be embraced by paying attention to the environment, taking responsibility, speaking up and keeping commitments. Students’ posts 1 RE: Module 1.2 Learning Activity 2: Project Lessons for Managers Discussion Forum Top of Form The project experience which I would like to share here is project of managing the data in a modern approach. It was basically a transfer of data management approach from traditional base to a modern approach in which our team worked well. There were few conflicts as well as issues in which manager did not treat the employees in a good way and did partiality with them based on their caste and background. WHAT MANAGED WELL WHAT MANAGED POORLY WHAT LESSONS CAN MANAGERS LEARN · Punctuality · Honesty · Target achieved · Teamwork · Workplace environment · Employees poorly treated · Partiality · Discrimination · No partiality · No discrimination Students’ posts 2 Top of Form What was managed well in the project What was managed poorly What lessons can managers learn Selection of right people, appointed right person to lead Preparation of learning materials due to poor time management Focus on priority    Not enough people involved due to the tight budget Calculate the budget correctly, make sure what takes to complete the project, how much time and money needed...        In this discussion forum, I would like to mention about the small project I participated in April, 2020. Redpath Training department is a big department with around 90 nationals/ Mongolians and expat experts, and have more than 10 years of experience in Mongolia, specialized in underground developments and shaft sinking. Based on the achievement and experience, the company’s management team and as well as the Client wanted the department to become Accredited/ Registered Training Organisation. We were given really short time but lots to preparation, paper works. Glad that the project team members were experienced and very productive people. But the mistake we have done was we didn’t allocate enough time to prepare our learning materials, spent too much time on some unnecessary things. Because of that, some of our learning materials were rejected, but fortunately we had second chance to fix and submit again. Also, there were only 6 involved in this project due to the tight budget. That also affected us to produce, develop good learning materials. The most important lesson learnt from this project is to evaluate how much work needed to be done, and how many people needed to complete the task within the given time, and spend enough budget to involve more people. In the end, first Mongolian RTO specialised in mining industry was established Module 2 Module 2.2 Learning Activity 1: Assessing readiness for change discussion forum Top of Form 1. Students’ posts 1 RE: Module 3.1 Learning Activity 1: How Organisations Attract Employees? \ Top of Form I worked in one of the world’s biggest gold and copper mine (Oyu Tolgoi) in Mongolia for about 7 years. I worked as a contractor in underground development. That mine is owned by Mongolian Government and Rio Tinto. My chosen company is Rio Tinto. I would like to continue my career in mining after graduated. Rio Tinto is multi-national corporation. Definitely one of the best employers for those who wants to work in mining field and for me Rio Tinto is the best place to work. As I was a contractor at Rio Tinto mine in Mongolia, I was trained and worked by their policies. There are several reasons why I want to work for them:   1. Reputation and experience. They are world’s second largest metals and mining corporation with lots of history and experience 2. Attractive salary- I cannot put exact numbers here. But their salary is definitely attractive. 3. Opportunity to grow both personally and professionally- They provide great soft and hard skill training to their employees. They operate in for about 35 countries. Thus, that brings a lot of opportunity to work in different countries. Above are only my understanding or information about them through my work experience or through my friends who already work for Rio Tinto. I have done some researches about them of course. Their “Values” are very attractive. 1. Safety- (“Zero fatality” goal). I have seen that in the mine I used to work. They do lots of work to manage risk, promote “Safety first” culture, focus on employees’ health and safety, not only physical health but mental health as well, introducing great technology, automation to reduce high risk jobs… 2. Teamwork 3. Respect (Aim for diverse workplace with people from different culture, country, background. Don’t encourage any kind of discrimination. Work environment- free from harassment, bullying and racism. Rio Tinto also cooperate with “Third” party company who works on employees’ complaints.) 4. Integrity 5. Excellence I have seen and read a lot of great things they do for local community and environment. Moreover, they implement great programs for students, new graduates who are willing to work in the mine. As a contractor, I didn’t have a chance to apply or transfer to Rio Tinto (as part of my employer and Rio Tinto agreement). Only option was quit my current job and apply. Thus, I didn’t want thar risk. Maybe they can be a little bit flexible on that to open opportunity. Module 3.1 Learning Activity 2: Learning Activity 2 - Why did you stay, why did you leave? Top of Form Think about what has made you pick the employers you have chosen and why you have changed jobs when you have. How typical are your answers with regards to what the literature is saying? What insights does this give you as to the application of theory to practice? Share your thoughts with others students by posting in Module 3.1 Why did you stay, why did you leave discussion forum. (100 Words) Please read other students’ posts and comment on why you agree, disagree or can provide help with another students’ post. Please reply to at least one other students’ posts. Students’ posts 1 RE: Module 3.1 Learning Activity 2: Learning Activity 2 - Why did you stay, why did you leave? Top of Form I would like share about my work experience with Redpath Mongolia LLC. I worked for them for 7 years. I would still be with them if I was still in Mongolia. I wanted to study in Australia, that’s why I had to leave my company. I could tell many reasons why I stayed. Below are the main reasons I want to share: 1. Endless opportunity to grow professionally. They provide ongoing, different set of training, and opportunity to promote. I started as a Training administration, coordinator and promoted to Training supervisor for my last 2 years of experience. 2. Salary+ insurance, bonus- The salary was quite attractive and Redpath gets their employees get full insurance. 3. Fair system- Employee’s evaluation system, salary growth is based on the assessment. And help employees to set a personal goal, help them to achieve. Regular meetings with direct supervisor and HR 4. Company culture- no discrimination, open communication between management and employees. 5. Supply and work environment- The most recent machineries, techniques, personal protective equipment, safe work condition Most of all, Redpath Mongolia is very people oriented, focused company. Of course, they are business, their main goal is income. But they never put their employees in second. I have seen and I was a part of many great events, activities during my employment. In my opinion, they could appoint right people in the management level. All our managers, superintendents both expats and nationals are great, very supportive, and trustworthy. The company gives an equal opportunity to everyone, they take care of their people. I participated many donation events for employees who needed help. The company was a big part of those donations. They initiate great activities. Because of all these reasons, employees are very satisfied, happy to be a part of the family. And that creates a great working atmosphere. I worked as a Human resources officer in another company between 2011 and 2012., for about year and a half. The reason I wanted to leave was management. The company itself was good. Salary was not too bad, good work and life balance, good work environment. But I didn’t see any room for me to develop. And there was no reward from my management no matter how hard I was working.
