This union led to the formation of unions. As nurses we have the same needs, improve salaries, benefits, hours, working conditions, respect for what we do, safety. But in addition to this, we want to exercise our profession as it suits us best, based on our license, certification, training and capacity for autonomous judgment, always within the ethical canons of our profession. That is why we need to unite in a union to negotiate these terms of autonomy in our profession, for the benefit of all (Sheridan, n.d.).
