Powerpoint How Detrimental Anxiety Is Affecting Our Young Generation During The Covid-19 Pandemic Alejandra Rivera Dr. Byler Oct. 10, 2021 How Detrimental Anxiety Is Affecting Our Young Generation During The Covid-19 Pandemic Introduction Anxiety is a health problem that affects the well-being of members of society. It is mainly caused by panic and related to stress, which negatively impacts the lives of individuals. For children, it is good to control anxiety because it affects childrens brain development and well-being. These reasons why it is good to manage anxiety are because when anxiety is high among children, it results in heart palpitation, it increases blood pressure, breathing problem, dizziness, and fatigue (Nearchou, Flinn, Niland, Subramaniam, & Hennessy, 2020). Therefore, it results in body complications that are dangerous to human life when controlled early. When anxiety is not handled early enough, it becomes difficult for the affected individuals to concentrate on their daily activities. Effect of anxiety in the young generation Since the spread of covid-19, society has been affected negatively by both parents and children. According to statistics, 56\% of individuals who reported anxiety are young generation between age 18-24 compared to the adults who suffer anxiety during the covid-19 pandemic (Wu, Jia, Shi, Niu, Yin Xie, & Wang, 2021). The majority of young people within the society have been greatly affected by anxiety because of the destruction of the usual way of operating. More schools were closed during the covid-19 pandemic as a way of controlling the spread of the diseases. The directions were provided by the World Health Organization, where countries were advised to regulate public gatherings and ensure that people don’t gather together on any occasion. Such directives negatively affected the young generation because association and interactions are shared among the youths, negatively discoursing them. Schools act as the primary source of behavior guidance and counseling. Most schools have guiding and counseling teachers responsible for guiding the kids during hard times to control anxiety and stress. With the destruction of normal functioning, it is hard for the young generation to get appropriate guidance significantly when anxiety affects them. Most of them end up having suicidal thoughts that need immediate attention. The case of the young age was different because even before the spread of the covid-19 pandemic, they were at higher risk of poor mental health and substance disorder; hence the conditions created by the measures that were being put in place increased the rate of anxiety among them as they could not meet with friends in public places to share while having fun (Panda et al. 2021). Any pandemic usually harms the life of individuals within the society. For the case of Covid-19, the pandemic has dramatically affected the young generation because of the associated stress and depression, which increases the level of anxiety hence affecting the productivity of the young age within the society. When an individual is disturbed mentally, the concentration level reduces, which negatively affects such individuals performance level. One of the contributing factors to the increased level of anxiety among the young generation during the pandemic is the loss of jobs which has affected the large population of the young age who are rendered jobless. Jobless youths engage in activities that expose them to risky situations such as drug abuse or criminal activities, exposing them to risks of being caught and legal action initiated against them. Engaging in illegal activities to raise income for survival is stressful and affects the health of the affected individuals. The increase in the anxiety of the affected people results in withdrawal symptoms where individuals operate lonely, and such behavior results in depression, a dangerous mental state. Prolonged anxiety results in depression, and at this stage, the mental health of the affected individuals is negatively affected. They cannot make rational decisions based on the available information and the consequences of their actions. It is because of depression that most young people within society end up committing suicide. The situation is made worse by the spread of covid-19 because there are minimal chances of individuals getting help from their peers. After all, a public gathering was prohibited, and it was expected that individuals remain indoors without moving out to share with family and friends. Parents are being affected negatively thinking about the challenges their kids face during this spread of covid-19 because most schools were closed and public places for physical training. The young generation needs to find time and participate in aerobic physical exercise because it is essential for mental growth. Anxiety reduced the activeness of the young age, which reduced the frequency of physical fitness exercise and the reduction in aerobic physical fitness. There has been an increase in the level of heart complications such as blood pressure and stroke. Additionally, anxiety during covid-19 has resulted in an increase in the cases of obesity among the young generation due to reduction in physical fitness and poor dieting as a result of a reduction in the income level as a result of economic destruction where most people loosed their jobs making it hard for them to support a balanced diet. Anxiety among the young generation has affected their learning capabilities. Even after the partial opening of schools, there were still negative memories of the impact of covid-19 where the students still remembered how they loosed their family and friends as a result of covid-19. With a high level of anxiety, it is hard for the students to concentrate, which reduces their performance level in schools. Without an immediate correction mechanism in place, the rate of school dropout can increase due to an increase in the level of anxiety. The level of sleep of youths affected by the anxiety is greatly affected because they are always thinking of the negative impact experienced during covid-19. As a result of negative thoughts, they have little sleep, which is unhealthy for human development. Lack of sleep results in an increase in headache band restless, which negatively impacts association with family band friends, increasing the rate of interpersonal conflict. The person under anxiety is temperate, and it is hard for them to associate with others. Ways of controlling anxiety during covid-19 It is recommended that the young generation suffering from anxiety create time and share with guardians and friends close to them. Even if the public gathering is discouraged, they can have a sharing session as a family to share what they are going through. Through sharing information, the problem is half solved. Therefore, it is encouraging for the young generation to seek advice and share the challenges they are going through with families and friends. Eating a balanced diet is another way of controlling anxiety which can be the best option for the youths affected by the negative impact of covid-19. A balanced diet ensures that junk foods that can increase the level of fats in the body are avoided, and the person eats food important in brain development. The second way of controlling anxiety is by having enough sleep. It will allow the affected individual to have adequate time to relax, minimizing the negative impact caused by stress (El-Khani et al., 2021). It is also advised for individuals suffering from anxiety to engage in regular aerobic physical exercise to prevent heart complications such as heart attack and stroke. Physical activity is essential because it reduces fat content in the body which help in improving the health of individuals and reduce the probability of anxiety and associated negative effect (Singh, Roy, Sinha, Parveen, Sharma, & Joshi, 2020). Conclusion Anxiety is caused by panic and related to stress, which negatively impacts the lives of individuals. For children, it is good to control pressure because it affects childrens brain development and well-being. It is good to manage anxiety because when stress is high among children, it results in heart palpitation, it increases blood pressure, breathing problem, dizziness, and fatigue.
