Corporate Culture is an integral part of the companys productivity, efficiency, and determines the turnover rate. In the mentioned case, CrudeOil, a subsidiary that manufactures oil drilling parts globally, hired a new manager to improve the sales. Despite the growth in sales, Jim cannot win the best manager award because he violated the core values, morals, and ethics. Firstly, he broke the core value of the company, treating everyone with respect. Secondly, Jim lacked moral values, which is evident when he took the credits for others work. Next, Jim is unethical. He gave a lesser sales account to and employee who spoke up to him. Jim lacked the qualities of being a good manager. He was not approachable, motivating, nor influencing. Instead, he was bullying, taking credits, belittling his employees, and spreading rumors. Jim created a hostile environment for Madison to work. Madison, a salesperson, reporting to Jim, was always in spot for performance despite meeting goals. Madison talked to her colleagues, who were in the same boat of fearing their jobs. Madison needs to highlight her concerns without risking to lose her job. Madison may have to try talking to Jim to understand if and why he told Peter that she was unwell. Madison can clearly state to Jim that she is uncomfortable about the rumors he is spreading and further escalate the issue to a higher authority, if not resolved. Madison can choose to become a whistle-blower or just quit the job. If the board of directors protects Jim, Madison should complain to the HR to file an anonymous complaint alone or with a group of her colleagues and become a whistle-blower. If she still doesnt get any support from the company, she could use the technology to record Jims behavior, file a lawsuit against the company, and submit for proof as needed. Lastly, she can just quit her job to escape from this hostile situation. In my opinion, Madison must first try to talk to Jim, if that doesnt work, complain to the HR, if that doesnt help, complain to the board, and if nothing helps, file a lawsuit. 5 days ago Meghana CHITTA RE: Resolving Business Ethical Challenges: Ethical Dilemma COLLAPSE Aggressive leadership is a poor form of leadership that costs a company huge loss over a period of time. This has been proven with some of the most successful companies like Uber. The Uber EX CEO was very aggressive and disrespectful to his stakeholders and employees. I see a similar kind of leadership style with Jim operating as a sales manager for Crude oil company. Jim is very disrespectful and takes credits on others ideas and efforts. It is very unethical for Jim to spread personal rumors on Madison for her poor sales. It is also not a good leadership style to not appreciate the employees in a company for their good work. It clearly, shows that the upper management are not at all concerned about their Employee growth and happiness. There were no efforts made in 18 months tenure of Jims management to get feedback from the salespersons. On top of it, many of the complaints made against Jims behavior and treatment were totally ignored by the Upper management. Jim was clearly not afraid of violating the most important core value of their company to respect a fellow worker. Jim also warns his team of sales persons that he is boss and he could pick out any of the employee at any time. Clearly, the company has no to very minimal HR involvement and clearly no rules around firing the employees. Madison situation is a bit hopeless here. She tried discussing with her colleagues and learned that nothing can be done to better this situation. She is aware of the repercussions on complaining about Jim to the higher authorities. I believe that Madison had made an excellent decision to quit to her job. The reason , is that clearly the company has no rules set up and executed around ethical issues in the company. 2nd discussions replies 4 days ago Qiqiang GUAN RE: Personal Case Study Topic COLLAPSE Wells Fargo Banking Scandal In September 2016, Wells Fargo was fined $185 million for establishing more than 2 million unauthorized customer accounts. This incident has aroused widespread concern about the integrity of Wells Fargo. Later, everyone discovered the following things. In the past few years, the company has laid off more than 5,300 employees with poor sales performance. Further investigation revealed more disturbing information. Many employees resigned under the immense pressure of unethical sales, and some were even fired for reporting misconduct through the company’s ethics hotline. CEO John Stumpf claimed that the scandal was the result of a few bad apples who did not honor the companys values and that there were no incentives to commit unethical behavior. The board initially supported John Stumpf, but later heard the news that John Stumpf resigned. Senior leadership were aware of these aggressive sales practices since 2002, but they did not take any measures. After this incident, the board of directors conducted an independent investigation and determined that the companys culture, structure, and leadership issues were the root cause of the improper sales behavior. I am working at PayPal. Like Wells Fargo, PayPal is also a company that focuses on financial sales. PayPals corporate culture is to treat customers with integrity and never allow unethical sales. It also does not expose employees to pressure from unethical sales. In my case study, I mainly analyzed the issue of unethical sales in financial companies like Wells Fargo, and its impact on employees, company reputation and shareholders. 3 days ago Samrudhdi SATAVASE RE: Personal Case Study Topic Mylan EpiPen Case study COLLAPSE Mylan is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the United States. Currently, Mylan has been going through a lawsuit for their unethical behavior as they have increased the price of the drug by 500\% over the span of 10 years. Mylan has also violated the antitrust law and is currently under investigation for the same. The reason I have choose this topic is being a health care provider I know how important this drug is, also it is widely used all over the country. Mylan as a company took benefit of its customers and the need for the drug in the market. They just kept on increasing the price without considering the social responsibility towards the society which was an unethical behavior showed by the company to make profits. I would like to study in-depth about this case, the reasons for Mylans decisions, and how it impacted their shareholders and society. ... Purchase answer to see full attachment
