Yes, no, sort of explain. This is my post “Libertarian tendencies” is an interesting phrase, putting in mind that it is not simple to explain the exact meaning of the word libertarianism. The same case applies to utilitarianism, with the two terms and concepts being too hard for one to align themselves with. In my personal experience, I have seen several occasions where libertarian tendencies were visible as I made certain decisions and exhibited others unconsciously, only to realize later. It is clear that libertarianism focuses on people’s freedom and respecting human rights. On several occasions, I have been on a dilemma as I try to figure out if my actions are for viable causes or if I am making the right decisions. While asking myself these questions, I find myself focusing on three principles that not all libertarians agree with. This is why I believe the topic is complex and subject to everyone’s interpretation. Some of my actions make me feel like a libertarian even though others are far from it. The scholarly work digs deep into three concepts unpopular to libertarians, which are lack of paternalism, moral legislation, and redistribution of affluence and income. Libertarians believe that the rules of paternalism are not in support of every individual having the right to make the decision of taking risks. They also believe that governments should not hinder their citizens from taking risks, especially when other people are not economically, emotionally, mentally, or physically harmed. Also, the authorities should not mind the risks if involved parties can accept the consequences of the actions they take though I find this datable depending from which direction one looks at this case, especially when human life is at stake. I personally do not think the law should be too lenient to people. If that was the case, no person would put on seat belts because everyone would indicate that it is their individual right to choose when to put on the belts same case applies to other preventive or cautionary measures put in place by government to save and protect human life. It is not ok for people to die in road accidents just because libertarians believe every person has a right to take certain risks and this applies to other risky behaviors that could potentially cost other innocent lives. Libertarians also believe that force should not be used to enforce the law advocating for moral convictions and virtues. They further indicate that minorities should be allowed to live their ways even if they are not considered morally right by other people. This may be helpful as it helps keep the cultures of minorities intact, but moral regulations are helpful as they lead to certain levels of advancement. On this, I think moral convictions and virtues are subjective and there is no need to make them a common thing by trying to force them on people Also, libertarians believe that there should not be any redistribution of income and affluence. They indicate that the government should not force people to share their wealth with the needy. Helping a person should be an individual undertaking. As such, libertarians see a redistribution of taxes as a way of stealing from people. I am deeply against this statement. If it was not for government policies such as Medicaid, the less fortunate would not receive medical services. Based on the examples I have provided above, it is clear that I have certain libertarian tendencies. Nonetheless, I do not support all libertarian tendencies since some may lead to oppression if governments decided to follow them. My classmate post. Secondly, I believe in a free market, and that distribution in the open market is just despite the outcome. However, I also have welfare tendencies in my decision-making. Thus, I believe in a government that enforces contracts, prevents theft and fraud, promotes peace, and that fights discrimination and oppression. I think that discrimination against persons based on race, gender, etc. is unjust. I also support minimum wage policies. One key decision influenced by libertarianism is the political party I support. I support that which upholds women’s reproductive rights. I believe that a person’s body is theirs, and they should be allowed to choose what to do to it. That party should also help its citizens the freedom to choose their sexual partners regardless of their gender. I love helping the needy. However, I believe that it should be a voluntary exercise. Taxing the rich to give to the poor is unjust. The rich should not be coerced to give, but it should be allowed to make that choice. If a rich woman or man is their person, the fruits of their labor are theirs. I like the excellent quality of products. Sometimes I do not have enough money to afford those goods and services. Some people can provide lower quality services at lower prices. While the government has good intentions at heart with quality control and occupational licensing requirements, I believe that an individual should have the right to enter into business with whomever they please. ...
