Southwest Airlines Company has been reported to be the worlds largest low-cost carrier. The company was founded back in 1967 and had been performing quite well since then, and has employed over 60,000 people with approximately 4000 departures daily, which varies depending on the season. The companys performance is connected to the mission and vision statement. The company covers the employees and the customers in the mission statement to ensure there is success in the operations. The mission to the customers is Dedication to the highest quality of customer service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and company spirit. This statement makes it clear that the company gives the customers a key priority in the various operations and service delivery. The mission to the employees is, We are committed to providing our employees a stable work environment with equal opportunity for learning and personal growth. The vision is, To become the Worlds Loved, Most Efficient and Most Profitable airline. Southwest Airlines has been successful in the industry over the years, an achievement that has been achieved by the complete implementation of the company vision and mission statements, among other issues (Airlines, 2016). The Fundamental Principles of Management Employed by the Company There is significant competition in the airline industry in the United States. One of the main reasons that have seen Southwest Airlines come out victorious in the industry is the strategic application of the principles of management. Controlling the company operations is one of the central tenets Southwest Airlines has embraced as the primary best practice to attain success. The company has over 60,000 employees; it is essential to have a solid controlling strategy to ensure that every individual in the workforce performs their duties as expected. SOUTHWEST AIRLINES COMPANY 3 Southwest Airlines management body has been in a position to significantly implement the various best practices that ensure they are in complete control of the materials and the workforce. The company is one of the largest domestic airlines in the United States, which means the size of the resources is quite large. It is clear, therefore, that proper operations control principles are one of the elements that have seen the company become successful. The management has been able to provide a detailed direction to the various organization resources, both human and materials. The Southwest Airlines Company has also implemented effective strategic planning as one of the best practices that have made the organization successful. The plan is an integral principle in any organization; Southwest Airlines has ensured the planning process is well executed in the implementation of the organizations mission and vision statements. The mission statement is covering both the employees and the consumers; the company has been working quite effectively in the planning process to ensure these two stakeholders are well served. The success of Southwest Airlines has been brought by the implementation of the proper planning strategy in line with the company Mission Statement. In conclusion, Southwest Airlines Company is one of the companies that have been very successful in the domestic airline business in the United States. The effective incorporation of the companys mission and vision statements in the strategic planning and the companys best practices have been the main factors that have made the company succeed. The management and the stakeholders have ensured that the customers who are the reason behind the companys existence and the employees who provide the company operations are running effectively (Harvey & Turnbull, 2020).
