OBJECTIVE
A critical analysis is an evaluation of a topic, part of a topic or an argument within the topic. This
type of analysis is a form of observation and evaluation, expressing personal opinions and
reactions based on the research you are observing.
Working with one of the articles provided on Moodle and a minimum of three additional sources,
you will engage in critical/analytical dialogue with the sources. In this assignment you will forward
your own claim and use the source material to support your thesis. The purpose of this
assignment is to use critical thinking to properly analyze a topic and develop a new and original,
opinion/perspective supported by research. Keep in mind, however, that you are limited to ~750
words, so your thesis must be clear and narrow.
They key to your success in this analysis will be your ability to be to connect your
analysis/claims/opinions with that of your sources. That is, you do not simply want to state “I
agree with this” or “I disagree with this.” Rather, whatever analysis you have, it should be
supported with examples and points from the research. Create a connection to your research to
create informed, supported opinion.
For your short report, you will use critical thinking to identify a theme or issue that connects the
source material and explain this relationship to your reader. In analyzing your theme or issues,
there a number of strategies you can take in your discussion:
•
Assert that one source more effectively makes its case/supports its position with respect to the
topic than do the other sources.
• In this case you will analyze the claims made and persuasive strategies employed in each
source and critique them.
•
Critique the validity of a claim made by a source.
• For this method, you will rely on your additional sources to prove the claim valid or invalid,
with support for your position.
•
Explore the nuances of the topic/issue as presented by the sources and make recommendations
for future research.

•
In this case you will choose one specific point with regards to the topic/issue that the
source material either
o touches on but doesn’t elaborate fully
o raises more questions than it answers
and explain the gaps that you see as problematic (and why), and make
recommendations for what kind of research might fill in these gaps.
You will be expected to use APA style correctly and to integrate the articles into the disciplinary
context of Business Administration.
The Short Report must include the following elements:
•
Cover page
o Report title, your name, and submission date
•
Introduction
o Source material introduced by author name and title, uniting theme clearly stated, and
contents of the report forecasted
•
Body Section
o The heart of your report which explores at least three key points that support your
thesis statement
o It is in this section that your source material is briefly summarized, key points as related
to the uniting theme are highlighted, critiqued and synthesized to support your thesis.
•
Conclusion
•
References
o APA style
o NOTE, you must also include in-text citations in your writing

Bonanno is affiliated with Dowling College and other places and has contributed to many
publications in bullying. Hymel is a member of the Department of Education and Counseling
Psychology and a contributor to research in bullying. The article examines the relationship
between engagement in cyberbullying, as either a bully or a victim, and the symptoms of
depression and suicidal ideation. The article finds that involvement in cyberbullying, as either a
bully or a victim, uniquely contributes to the symptoms of depression and suicidal ideation more
compared to traditional forms of bullying. I will use information from this article to show how
cyberbullying has led to more negative psychological health effects compared to traditional
bullying.

May 2020, from https://www.newyorker.com/science/maria-konnikova/how-the-internethas-changed-bullying.
The author is a writer and psychologist with a Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University and
has contributed numerous articles and essays to publications, such as Times, Scientific American
Mind, and The New Republic. The article discusses that the internet has made bullying both
difficult to escape and cumbersome to identify. The article explains that the internet has made us
bullies without even realizing what we are doing and that we are engaged in an online environment
where consequences usually go unseen. The article mentions that bullying in children can be
prevented by schoolwide interventions through instilling self-awareness, while in adults, it requires
introspection. I will be using this article to show that the internet has created an environment where
bullying is harder to notice and difficult to escape.

The authors are members of the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. The article
investigates the efficacy of cyberbullying interventions in reducing cyberbullying. The article
discusses online as well as offline cyberbullying preventive strategies delivered through media,
such as interactive software and preventive interventions for parents for protecting children from
cyberbullying. The article reveals that participating in Psychoeducation Internet Safety
interventions can significantly increase internet safety knowledge. I will use this article to describe
that psychoeducation can improve people’s internet security knowledge to help in minimizing
cyberbullying.

Olweus is a member of the Department of Health Promotion and Development at the University
of Bergen and has contributed to significant publications in different areas of psychology. Limber
is a member of the Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life and has significantly contributed to
research in bullying and other psychology work. The article discusses various adverse effects of
cyberbullying and traditional bullying, such as low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. The
article explains that unlike traditional bullying, it is difficult to know the degree of the adverse
effects resulting from cyberbullying even though the problems (Placeholder2) are reported. The
article explains that cyberbullying is hard to identify. I will use this article to describe how
cyberbullying involves more significant adverse outcomes than traditional bullying, and that the
effects are difficult to identify.
