The house sits on the main road, where they’re empty dirt lots just sitting empty, taking up space, and not increasing my property value. Those empty lots could have been made into anything, a nursey for plants or a field for children to play in. Instead, it remained empty with nothing but piles and piles of dirt and rocks piled up making little hills. A few months ago, the city starts to place gravel and bricks in these empty lots, ready to build new homes in the space where nothing exists. At first sight, all you see if dirt, rocks, and tools just sitting around not doing anything. As weeks go by, I start to see the physical change from dirt and gravel, to bricks and sheets of wood lying around. As time goes on, I can start seeing the structure of the foundation that is being laid out to start the process of building the outward appearance of the new construction. Soon the exterior of the new home has been complete and then they get to work on the interior. Once all this is complete, what once was an empty lot, became three beautiful new homes. Before the process of building started, the empty dirt lot was not doing anything for the property value of all the other homes surrounding the neighborhood. When people are buying or selling homes, they take things like that into consideration to determine the worth of the homes in the surrounding area. Having empty gaps between homes caused a major impact on the surrounding homes in the area. As the contractors build the homes, they increased the value of the surrounding nearby homes. This will help the housing market in the future once this pandemic is handled and everything is back to normal. These homes have increased property value by 15 percent. There is not a significant impact that I have notice in the few years DISCUSSION 2 that I have lived here of movement of materials. However, my hometown in North Carolina is a different story. I am from Cape Hatteras, North Carolina which happens to be a barrier island. Erosion is a huge factor in the land there and it is forever changing. There is a constant movement of material, which in this case is sand and soil, by many different processes. This material is continuously being moved and shifted by the everyday coming and going of ocean tides and winds. Between hurricanes and just everyday storms the beaches are in major need of nourishment. It’s hard to hold on to sand when there is nothing there to hold it down. Many efforts have been put in place to keep the beaches from washing away but mother nature is a force to be reckoned with. After time those efforts are lost by another storm or tide and then it’s back to the drawing board. Eventually the island itself will be totally different.
