What am I required to do in this assignment?
For this assignment, you are required to write an academic essay based on analyzing a text written by a language
learner based on a number of linguistic criteria including semantic roles, word morphology, syntactic categories,
and cohesive devices used in the texts. You have access to the texts that you need for your analysis from a website
which will be introduced to you by your lecturer. The report should be 1200 words (+/- 10\%).
The stages to accomplish the task
Stage 1:
Go to the website which will be introduced by your lecturer and choose a text of about 500 words.
Stage 2:
Analyze the text based on the following criteria:
1. Syntactic features: Which functional and lexical categories have been used in the text? Which functional
categories have been used more in the text? Which functional categories are missing in the text? Which type of
sentences (simple or complex) sentences were used in the text? Provide examples.
2. Morphology: look for the morphological aspects of the words used in the text. What inflectional and derivational
morphemes have been used by the learner? Which inflectional features are missing in the text?
3. Discourse features: Which cohesive devices have been used in the text? Look for both grammatical and lexical
cohesive devices used in the text.
Stage 3

above in writing your assignment.
How do I produce high quality work that merits a higher grade?
