Assignment Brief:
1.1 Background information
You will produce a Project Feasibility and Economics report using a selected real-world
project and scenarios. Over the 12 weeks of lectures and seminars, you will learn about a
range of concepts, techniques and methods for performing project appraisal, feasibility and
economics. These techniques and methods cover the whole project lifecycle of projects
from the Concept phase through Development to Operation and Termination (Figure 1).
You will gain an understanding of: (1) the different facets of feasibility including financial,
economic, environmental, and social feasibility; (2) the different economic environments
surrounding projects including, macro and micro environments, and regulatory/legal
environments, and finally (3) stakeholder environments including the Sponsor,
Professional, and Contracting environments.

This individual assignment will assess the topics taught in the semester of this course. It
has been designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop their ability for
critical evaluation from theoretical and contextual perspectives.
This assignment will assess your knowledge and understanding of international project
audit techniques and approaches and specifically focused on financial and contractual.
There will be flexibility allowed in tems of both qualitative and quantitative approaches to
analysis. You will required to produce a 4000 word report about the economic feasibility of

a given project which will apply the theories and concepts covered on the course. The
focus of the report will be an evaluation of three project phases from pre-project, project
execution to post project review.
This is an individual assessment.
During the seminar sessions you will be given the opportunity to develop your application
of theories and techniques delivered in the lectures.
This module will not be a standalone module but will compliment the content of the other
modules covered as part of the programme.
The assessment is worth 100\% of the module. It will be submitted and assessed
electronically and it addresses Module Learning Outcomes listed below.
Additional instructions to students:
Throughout the module you will asked to engage in a range of formative assessment
tasks. These may be in the classroom or to be completed in between taught sessions.
These formative assessment activities are designed to build your knowledge,
understanding and ability to apply concepts learned in class.
In order to further equip you with topic specific knowledge and understanding, and help
you develop your intellectual skills and abilities in this subject area of financial and
contractual management, you are to individually produce a forensic project audit of a
completed project. Sample international projects will be provided from the tutor from
which to choose.
This assignment will draw on appropriate academic and practitioner literature, and will
review the initial pre-investment analyses, the appropriateness of the contracting
strategies applied, the form of contract applied and the effectiveness of these delivery
decisions. It is a requirement of this assignment that your analysis considers the
consequence of the project having an international footprint e.g. contractually and
economically. It is expected that your critical evaluation will be properly structured and
supported through ‘academic’ research using appropriate and quality references which
are cited correctly throughout. It is to conclude with an effective summary recording the
positives and negatives of financial and contractual decision making on the project and
recommendations for future practice. A separate references list must also be provided at
the end of the document.
