Agriculture is the source of wealth for many countries; through agriculture, people have been able to sustain their needs. Most of the developing countries rely on agriculture for their wealth. These countries produce goods and export them to other countries through this activity the states can gain wealth and get other products that they do not produce in their countries. Human beings rely on foods that come from agricultural activities for their health. This paper aims at explaining the role of science in agriculture (Sustainable agriculture-role of smallholding agriculture (Sha), 2018). Science is the pursuit of knowledge covering general facts or the operation of fundamental laws. Science plays a significant role in the development of agriculture; through research, science has been able to solve many of the problems that face the agricultural sector in the world. Agricultural practices have shifted from the use of manual means to the use of machines due to science. The knowledge has provided the base for research of the material required for use in the agricultural sector. Agriculture uses the knowledge of chemistry to determine the pH of soil. The acidic and base nature of the soil is essential in the production activity in agriculture. Before land is qualified for agricultural practices, the soil has to be tested so as to determine the level of the soil ph best for the plantation of products. The soil is significant to support the growth and development of a plant (Gamble, 2017). Rearing of domestic animals has also changed due to agriculture, and we rely on animals for meat and other products such as eggs. Through scientific knowledge, the growth and development of plants and animals have been facilitated. Through the understanding of GMO animals and plants, production has increased and therefore helped in sustaining human needs (Lee & Chun, 2014). SCIENCE TOPIC PAPER 3 Reference Gamble, D. (2017). SpringerReference. https://doi.org/10.1007/springerreference_224004 This source provides information on the application of physics as a branch of science in agriculture. It explains the various ways physics has helped in the expansion of agriculture. Through the knowledge of physics, Agricultural machines have been produced to help in the activities such as storing of goods and also land cultivation machines. Currently agriculture depend on these machines for mass production. Unlike traditional agricultural processes where everything was performed manually the current practises are done by machines.
