The act was implemented to enhance the healthcare system and guarantees the protection of patients information. The HIPAA security rule is entrusted to a physician whose work is to safeguard the patients’ data by using a specified means of security. The patients’ health records that are stored electronically are known as ePHI. The security rule prioritizes protecting the privacy rule through addressing nontechnical and technical measures that entities must use to ensure the security of e PHI. Since the launch of the HIPAA security rule in 1996, the view of security in organizations has changed. Importantly, the security and privacy of patients data have been improved. The HIPAA privacy rule sets the national standards by protecting an individuals PHI that is held by providers like hospitals. According to privacy rules, PHI needs to be protected (Anthony, Appari, & .Johnson, 2014). These regulations have changed the way health organizations view protection since they now have an idea of dealing with the increasing cybersecurity attacks that jeopardize their patients health information. By using the HIPAA rules, organizations can maintain current and comprehensive healthcare data security. The HIPAA regulations are just right because they are flexible for healthcare organizations. For instance, they allow the organizations to apply rules which align with the setting of the organization. Identically, since cybersecurity attacks have increased, these regulations are critical to large organizations because they need to secure their patients data. Although the HIPAA process can be time-consuming for organizations, the procedure is worthwhile as organizations that implement the technical, administrative, and physical safeguards which meet the HIPAA HEATH SECURITY 3 specification can apply new technologies that can improve their patients care. For example, through the administrative safeguards, organizations nee to guide their employees on the proper use of ePHI. This policy states that PHI should be protected, and the conduct working force should be managed. As for the technology safeguards, the procedures entail the specific technology which providers implement for thee PHI security, for example, antivirus software and firewalls ( Anthony, Appari, & Johnson, 2014). Further, physical protection is the policies which protect and organizations electronic information system and other building and types of equipment form natural hazards and unauthorized intrusion. All the safeguards are vital, as they are critical in health organizations, for their security wellbeing. Conversely, not all organizations comply with the HIPAA requirements. Arguably, some of the health facilities do not have the right mechanism to protect PHI as required by the security rule. Further, some organizations do not have the needed resources to comply with the HIPAA rules fully. Similarly, though, the organizations may be aware of and understand the PHI security needs, but the staff may not have the knowledge or comprehension of the specific guidelines. There are specific measures that can improve security in the healthcare industry. For instance, all the working staff needs to be educated in enhancing healthcare security data. Human errors are one of the significant causes of security breaches. Raising security awareness and providing them with the necessary training can be the right way of enhancing the security of the patient’s information. Apart from that, healthcare facilities need to ensure they have the proper device for security. Most of the tools in health care organizations are unsecured, and some have weak security. Through medical devices are vital in enabling health care providers to make the right diagnosis decisions, they can easily be interfered with (Wilking, 2018). Thus, the safety of these HEATH SECURITY 4 devices is needed through updating software and setting up strong passwords that cannot be easily hacked. The tools should also be turned off whenever they are not in use. Part 2 The three crucial privacy and security aspects that apply to an organization are making sure that there is accountability for data security, rules for the digital services, and assess to the account. Importantly, the organization should make sure all the workers know of their duties concerning the organizations security system (Khan, Haque,& Hoque, 2016). The organization should ensure that every data is classified so that the employees will know how every information requires to be handled. Additionary, another vital aspect is the implementation of policies that dictate how healthcare should deal with all the security elements like remote access. Finally, another element that should apply to the organization is account survey and restriction, which entails keeping track of the people accessing the crucial components of data security policies. Arguably, there should be IT members in the organization who will assess and restrict user accounts to prevent fraudulent activities from happening. There are various challenges encountered om implementing healthcare privacy and security in the organization (Choi, Capitan, Krause & Streeper, 2006). One of the problems is the costs involved in implementing the security system and educating the staff on security issues. Another challenge is that the organization has to win patients trust so that they can be confident in providing the correct information regarding their health issues. Finally, the last challenge is ensuring that the security system is safe in ways that can be hacked. The digital aspect of healthcare data complicates privacy in that the health data is becoming a target for the cyberbullies due to their monetary value. Hacking of PHI, which entails a digital health record kept by the health providers, has become an increasing trend, as HEATH SECURITY 5 they can sell this vital information in the black market. Essentially, the three professional certifications which are popular in the healthcare privacy community are the healthcare information security and privacy certification (HCISPP), The certified professional in healthcare information and management (CPHIMS), and registered health information technician (RHIT). The requirements for the credential are successful completion of substantial information management programs that have been accredited by CHIIM, a minimum of three years of healthcare data experience, and holding a graduate degree from an accredited college or university.
