Appalachian and Arab heritages In the eastern of the U.S., Appalachia consist of the largest geographical expanse. Notably, the region covers a 205,000-mile region and extends from the northern sides of the U.S. to the north region of Mississippi (Purnell, 2012). A rolling topography characterizes the area with hilltops and rugged ridges. Some of these hills are 4000 feet high, and between them are remote valleys (Purnell, 2012). The surroundings of the hills give people peacefulness, isolation, and separateness from urban areas. Again, rough topography and isolation has made people develop a sense of cohesiveness and independence. However, these rugged and isolated valleys hinder the people who want to access public and private transportation. Besides, the people in the region do not get the services of the health care systems. The geography of the region makes it difficult for ambulances to access the area when they needed an emergency. Although many people can trace their family roots from the region, many have left the region to search for job opportunities in the cities. The Arabs can trace their traditions and ancestry origin to the tribes in the nomadic desert of the Arabian Peninsula (Purnell, 2012). Notably, these groups share the Arabic language and are united by their Islamic religion. Despite the good relationship created by sharing the same language and being united by religion, the people experience diversity in behavior attitudes and thoughts. The diversities are brought about by the variation in culture (Stump, 2020). Thus, immigrants in the region may have possessed great cultural differences, especially based on religion, refugee status, education, employment status, and ethnic identities. Presenting the Arab Americans can be challenging due to their cultural differences. Notably, Arab Americans seem to disappear from the national studies as they count them as the whites without distinguishing them as separate ethnic groups. In most Arabs countries, the Islamic religion is widely recognized together with its laws and regulations. Besides, the knowledge derived from religion is essential in understanding the cultural frame of Arab Americans. More importantly, it is vital when providing health care to particular religious beliefs. There existed several similarities between Arab heritage and the Appalachian communities. Notably, individuals in both groups highly engaged in smoking. Also, most of the Appalachians and the Arabs were affected by diseases such as obesity and cancer. Notably, these diseases were facilitated by their lifestyles. Both the Appalachians and Arabs eat meat to build their body due to the protein constitutes of the food. Notably, they believed that every individual had to have good health, especially the youths whose conditions deteriorated. Besides, they believed that to trust in biomedical treatments of all kinds of diseases that affected them. For instance, when an individual got sick, they had to visit the pharmacist or nurse to get treatments (Purnell, & Fenkl, 2019). Notably, they could only sick for treatments only when they were ill. Generally, the Appalachian and the Arabs seek treatments through some cultural ways. Moreover, they believed that bad nerves resulted in mental illness. Religion was essential among the Appalachians and the Arabs. Notably, it enhanced health care delivery among the groups. For instance, the Appalachian believed that good health was due to Gods will (Purnell, & Fenkl, 2019). On the other hand, the Arabs believed that someone’s sins could result in punishment in the form of illness. Besides, the Appalachian and the Arabs valued life and believed it was God-given. Hence the reason they took care of the sick in their societies. The two groups also believed that God’s power could make the sick better. References Purnell, L. D. (2012). The Appalachians originated from Wales, Scotland, England, Ireland, Germany and France, and converged to America to attain better economic opportunities and religious freedom. The Appalachians settled in mountainous regions where their culture and religion would be highly practical. In America, Appalachians constitutes around 410 counties in 13 states are settled in Mississippi and New York. The groups are, however, still migrating within America from urban to rural and rural to urban. A more significant population of the Appalachians in the United States constitutes an old age. The group is involved in a wide range of economic practices in the country. For instance, many of the Appalachians have been engaged in mining, textile, service, and farming, which has been very positive in building the countrys economy. However, Appalachians usually face high unemployment rates that imply high poverty levels within the community (Lcturenotes, n.d.). Moreover, the locality of the group has minimal infrastructure. The community has also faced isolation in the country, and the impact has resulted in poor education, which has made them fall from being the most educated group to the least educated in a short period. Even with the challenges, Appalachians are not aggressive and do not interfere with other peoples lives. Arabs Arabs, on the other hand, originated from 22 countries and spoke a common language (Lcturenotes, n.d.). After migration, they settled in the North-eastern America. Most Arabs were educated and served Christianity. Later on, Muslims, Islam, and Arabism became part of the Arab religion. The group also faces intimidation and is severally suspected of crimes in the country. Likewise, their faith gets negative comments, which leads to a stressful life among Arab-Americans. Arabs are highly involved in smoking, and most of them have been associated with crimes like not using helmets when riding a motorbike and nonuse of seatbelts in vehicles. Arab women face a high risk of violence and stress due to poor social support among Arabs. Arabs are involved in a sedentary lifestyle and high intake of fats, which increases their exposure to cardiovascular disorders. However, breast cancer, mammography, and cervical Pap smears are low among the ArabAmericans. The health-care practices between the Arabs and Appalachians have indicated some similarities, especially in their health-care beliefs. For instance, due to isolation in the country, both Arabs and Appalachians practice unity among them and consider good health as a source of strength to fulfill their roles (Kosstrin, 2020). The two communities prefer self-care and using preventive measures because they do not trust American physicians. In both communities, diseases like cancer demand advanced care and are feared as they can bring shame to the communities. If not mentally ill, patients can endure pain as they seek medication. Religious and cultural beliefs in the two communities play a significant role in their health-care practices. For instance, Appalachians believe that the culture of being should not constitute to rushing the patient to get medical attention. Due to isolation in both communities, they prefer solving their problems by themselves, including health problems. Both Arabs and Appalachians do not trust American doctors, so they tend to seek medical attention to their patients within the community (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). The Appalachians trust themselves and believe that the patients’ ideas matter in solving their ill-health condition. Since the communities have developed unity, most ill-health situations are solved by their trained midwives and nurses. Due to the unity among the people, both communities take care of their patients. Again they generally accept the patient as a whole individual. Similarly, due to high levels of unemployment and poverty, both Arabs and Appalachians seek local medications since they cannot afford advanced health-care facilities. References Purnell, L.
