The student will develop an understanding of the cost accounting process, including terminology and cost behavior patterns and apply them to job order and process costing systems. 2. The student will learn to effectively communicate with the controller and other management accountants, and to understand the basis at which cost information is collected and aggregated. 3. The exams or the final will not be comprehensive. 2. An additional 15\% of the student’s grade will be determined by the results of quizzes that will be taken online through MyAccountingLab. Online quizzes must be taken by the stated time. Quizzes are taken by going to MyAccountingLab by logging in through CANVAS and consist of multiple choice questions and /or problems similar to the homework based on all material from the textbook chapter and will be timed. Exams – there will be approximately 20 multiple-choice questions and 5 or 6 problems from the chapters covered. You will have 210 minutes to complete the exam. MyAccountingLab Grades: The grades you see on Pearsons MyAccountingLab are not exact. The major difference may be a missed assignment which will not be calculated into the grade until it is manually done through the system. There are limitations in the grades on MyAccountingLab but it does offer a good idea of how you are doing. ***After each HW and Quiz, problems that you may have struggled with or did not get full credit for or even may have gotten wrong, will be used to update and find similar problems to put into a study plan that you may use to help practice more to improve your scores on exams. This study plan is NOT part of your grade and is NOT mandatory but useful and another helpful tool. CANVAS: Is a website that is provided through Cuyamaca College. CANVAS is mainly used for getting into MyAccountingLab (Pearson website that is accessed through CANVAS), announcements, discussion board and posting of important material. All your assignments (except discussion board) that are due on-line will be through MyAccountingLab . Discussion Board – You will have 2 to 5 discussion board questions throughout the semester. These questions will require a paragraph or two of explaining or answering. To receive full credit for the assignment, you must answer the question and also respond to at least one of your classmates post. Check due dates both on CANVAS and MyAccountingLab. The dates will always be correct on MyAccountingLab and sometimes they do not update or post to CANVAS. So don’t just rely on CANVAS. There are many means to confirm dates and make sure that you are staying on schedule. Also there is an excel spreadsheet of dates that you can print out and use as an accurate calendar. Grades are sometimes slow updating to CANVAS. Your grades scored for assignments will always be available and up to date inside of MyAccountingLab. So if you think there is a problem updating your grades on CANVAS, give it some time. They will eventually update and you can always check MyAccountingLab for your grades, and these are the grades I download and use. CANVAS and MyAccountingLab are an integral part of this class. Make sure that you check these sites regularly for announcements, due dates and important information. Miscellaneous Information: Prerequisites: Completion of BUS 120, Financial Accounting, or Equivalent Course. Absences: This course is completely online. Make sure you complete your work on time.
