My Respond: Three main messages from the article “Writing is recursive” by Chris Blankenship are that writing is repetitive, writing requires patience and the outcome of a very nicely written piece has an underlying hard work from the creator. According to Blankenship, the writing process involves creation, investigation, drafting, review and editing steps which are done randomly and each of the steps are done more than once. Doing the steps several times requires patience as the process gets boring. Therefore, a lot of hard work is required to achieve success in covering the steps involved severally. Unfortunately, only the final written work may be seen by the audience while the main effort to actualize the creation remains behind the scene (Blankenship). Blankenship’s’ article has challenged my writing skills. I have often taken writing as a flowing process whereby the steps involved have to be done once and linearly. I would strive to ensure that I take one step at a time from coming up with ideas to the final written piece after edition. I never go back to any step that I have finished and I mostly proofread my written work once. I have resorted to be open about repeating the steps of writing whenever I need to so that I may have a final written piece that stands out. For example, I don’t necessarily have to avoid researching after I have edited my work because I might unearth a better idea to write about compared to what I already have.
