It is important to have all sex and gender identities represented in government. Only by
keeping all sex and gender in the government can we ensure that all groups in society
have a voice. In this way, the voice of any social group will not be ignored. For example,
in the article Womens empowerment and education: Panchayats and Womens self-help
Groups in India, it mentioned that Indian Women had made great progress in politics in
recent years and had their own organizations. Coming together to solve problems for
women. In the previous patriarchal society, government departments dominated by men
often ignored womens problems and feelings (Ghosh, 2015). In fact, this is also true in
China. In the past, women were required to have more than one child because of the
tendency to have sons. Now Chinas law clearly stipulates the requirement of having a
second child, and there are corresponding fines for those who give birth without
permission. The situation in which women are forced to give birth is thus resolved.
In fact, women are a relatively weak group in government. We should pay attention to
the proposals of women in government. Women are more rounded and better than men
at thinking about problems and dealing with relationships. This is very advantageous in
government. We cannot ignore the role of women in government. And, at a time when
the world is advocating for gender equality, it is absurd to lack a female role in
government. If it is difficult for men and women to work together in government, I think it
is also difficult for people to achieve gender equality in society. While we are well aware
that true gender equality is a long and difficult process, at least in government it needs
to lead by example.
Moreover, it is worth noting that it is not just women who are weaker in government.
There are even social groups that barely exist, such as LGBT. These neglected groups
still need to be represented.

It is important to have all sex and gender represented in government. States are the
dominant way of promoting group welfare (Wade & Ferree, 2019, 195). There are many gender
groups in society. the gender binary system recognizes only male and female and ignores gender
minorities such as LGBT. State is the most powerful institution in the U.S.. The decisions and
laws it makes will have impacts on all other institutions. The state shapes our identities and lives.
For example, different countries have different categories of gender identities. And the one child
only policy in China discourage women form having more than one child. Now Chinese
government’s encouragement of second child is strong evidence of the how the government
decision can affect use all. When the state makes laws, government officials have meetings to
discuss the details. If they find something wrong or inappropriate, they can suggest to change or
vote against the law. When the male is the majority in the government, they rarely think about
females’ interest. And the policies and laws they carry out will consciously and subconsciously
reflect their gendered thoughts. It is hard to imagine that a government lead by a sexist, Donald
Trump will take care of women’s interest. Even if some females try to do something to change
the hierarchical binary gender system. Men can easily veto proposals by the advantage of their
number. Therefore, underrepresentation of women in government will affect their interest and
welfare.
Female as the majority gender is underrepresented in the government. The situation is less
positive for gender minorities. If gender minorities can improve their presence in the
government, their worried and interest will be taken into concern. Just imagine, if governors of
every state are a member of LGBT, they will propose to improve the situation of LGBT group.
But the fact is their inadequate presence in government makes it harder for them to fight for their
rights.

I think the gender system will become less hierarchical. More males and females will
realize that they are constrained by their respective gender roles and gendered expectation form
society. And the society will embrace more gender ideologies. The change will be slow but the
future for gender equality is positive.
The road to gender equality is promising but bumpy. Females and gender minorities are
determined to win their equal rights with the dominant male group. History has witnessed
feminists’ efforts to win their suffrage rights. And several countries in the world has passed the
law of gay marriage. Besides, modern technology also helps. Women and gender minorities can
organize social movement or protests online. Network supports a sense of community built
around norms of gender equality (Wade & Ferree, 2019, 381). However, we should also aware
that the road to equality is not an easy one. Sexists can also use modern technology to threat
feminist movements. Male authority has reigned since ancient time. Nearly all institutions have
been affected by the gender binary system. For example, school should be the place that shape
the mind of people. However, even in school, we can find traces of the gender binary system
from teacher-student interaction, school curriculum and etc. Besides, underrepresentation of
female and gender minorities in the government makes it hard for their voice to be heard and for
their concerns to be addressed.
We should stand steady and firmly for the battle. First, use education as a tool for more
people to realize that they are victim of the gender binary system. Second, we can support more
females and gender minorities in government. Third, we should unit together. Though feminists
may have different views about gender utopia, they can have different opinions on certain issues.
But one fundamental rule is that feminists should treat all women alike because in history, white
feminists did not welcome black women to join them. If as women, we discriminate against each
other, how can we use concerted effort to win the battle?

I think the gender system, roles, expectations and ideologies will change in the future, at
least to some extent, the small change. First of all, I think its worth noting that most
people today have some degree of gender education in their minds, and many families
no longer have a preference for having sons. In a family, equal attention has been paid
to womens learning and education, which is no longer the old idea around the family.
When men and women form families, many men also take on the role of taking care of
the family, while women become the economic support of the family. Such cases are no
longer special cases in life, but more and more common.
Secondly, in China, influenced by some old thinking, families have a preference to have
sons. In the past, in some remote families, in order to be able to bear a son, at the birth
of many daughters. However, in Matts article, he mentioned that after China limited a
family to only one child, the number of such women being required to have sons
decreased (Matt, 2018). The government has to pay a hefty fine for having a second
child. This fine is not worth having a second child for some poor people. This also
shows that womens rights and problems are protected and supported by the
government and policies. In this trend, I still think our future gender is possible to
achieve equality. But I also have to admit that it may take a lot of time and energy to
achieve full gender equality, which may require more than the power of government and
the masses. It will take more outside forces, like education and a change in thinking.
These changes will take time. I still believe that it can be done one day, and the masses
should actively cooperate with and fight against the old ideas.
