Project Summary
In order to better serve the community children and residents, The Parks and Recreation
folks decided to design and build a new playground to replace the old unsafe playground in the
community. At the same time, the new playground will add some new functions. To meet the
needs of the community, The Parks and Recreation folks invites community residents to
participate in the design of the new playground. Then hand over the residents recommendations
and requirements to the design company to complete the design work. Finally, the project will be
outsourced to the construction company through competitive bidding. In addition, the project
includes community communication, opening events, and updating the project progress at the
Parks&Recreation website. The project budget is $150,000. The project is expected to be
completed by December 15, 2018, and the entire project will be completed by Memorial Day,
2019.

Major Challenges
●
Extreme weather. Outdoor building projects are often affected by weather factors, and bad
weather can cause the project to be suspended or postponed.
●
Poor communication. Lack of communication or poor communication may be the death of
the project. Project managers need to communicate with stakeholders and senior
management in order to get their support. At the same time, the project manager must
communicate clearly with the team members so that the team members can better complete
the task.
●
Unrealistic Epectations. Sometimes the expectations of stakeholders are impractical. For
example, the function of an amusement park is to meet the needs of children and residents,
but it is impossible to meet the needs of all, regardless of the final project deadline or lack
of resources. Project managers should advocate for stakeholders not to set unrealistic
expectations.

Project Overview
Summer Job WEB SITE for Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce:
I have just returned from a meeting with a local Chamber of Commerce. The Cape Cod
Chamber (http://www.capecodchamber.org) is concerned with ensuring that small
business employers catering to the tourist industry (i.e. restaurants, kayak and bicycle
rental, beach concessions, boutiques, variety stores, etc.) are able to find qualified seasonal
employees for the summer tourist season, typically high school and college students. These
businesses are not able to use search engines like Monster, Indeed, JustHired – in fact, many
of the business owners are limited in computer applications. Currently, the Chamber hosts
a web page that provides available full-time professional jobs. For the summer hiring
season, the chamber wants to expand these job search functions for seasonal jobs with the
target-hiring group to be high school and college students. This project is to define, plan,
design, build and implement a web application for these local employers to advertise and
recruit high school and college students. The Chamber has asked that this solution be a
stand along web site instead of being an enhancement to the existing site. A new domain
name and hosting site will need to be procured. It will be important to add a link to the
existing web site to connect to this new site. Project work must include the selection of the
domain name and hosting site. A draft WBS, duration estimates and schedule have been
completed by the project team (attached).
I quickly volunteered our PJM 6015 class to create the risk management plan, risk register,
and integration of risk work with the other planning components.
The Chamber leadership group has provided some direction for the website. It will allow
local employers to post jobs and accept resumes. It will allow high school and college
students the ability to search for and apply for jobs. It will also provide the ability for
employers and applicants to send communication back and forth.
Project Objective/ Success Criteria (Charter):
To plan, design, build and implement a web application that will allow employers to post
jobs and receive resumes. It will allow applicants to search for and apply for jobs and for
employers and applicants to send communications.
Planning is to commence on January 10 and to be completed by April 2. . The work to create
the website will begin on April 4 and completed in time to introduce this web service to
small businesses at the Chambers Annual Meeting, to be held on October 10. The agenda of
this session is to hold a brief business meeting. The majority of the day is to train
employers on the capabilities and use of the website. It will be the responsibility of the
project team to plan for and conduct this day. A venue for the meeting will need to be
contracted and food for the day will need to be provided.
