Digital File Signature Forensics
ABSTRACT
The digital forensics is a method of gaining access to the crime scene where digital crime has been
committed. It involves also learning computerized document signature at the crime scene for
investigation. There is a strategy for applying relevant information in the assortment, examination,
and introduction of advanced verification to councils or courts. The technique mostly involves
protection, recognizable accreditation proof, gathering, and reporting PC proof, which is put away
as electronic, optical, or attractive media. These are but several unique ways of collecting data at
the crime scene and a way to prove a crime at a digital arena.
Several tools have been created, on the other hand, to aide in recognition of the type of
crime committed based on the different digital grounds. Since there are various documents put
away in a PC, there is consistently the need to limit search space to spot materials that are
suspicious and to make it simple for criminological inspectors to scan for vital information.
Critically, this progression requires the utilization of a mark examination, which is a procedure
whereby documents, their expansions just as headers are contrasted and perceived databases of
extensions and headers with a point of discovering the materials that might be covered up on the
capacity media only as validating them.
Since there is a progression in the complexity of data, data encryption, and other protection
strategies, more tools have been developed to handle the data recovery process. The continued
interference with the very data we wish to recover thus may be lost in the process due to the
technological advancements in data protection. The paper, however, proposes an arrangement for
accomplishing a dramatic improvement in exploration and operational proficiency through the
selection of efficient methodologies for speaking to legal information and performing a
criminological calculation.

Digital File Signature Forensics
Digital file signature forensics is a method of applying scientific knowledge in the collection,
analysis and presentation of digital proof to tribunals or courts. The method entails preservation,
credential identification, collecting and documenting computer evidence which is stored as
electronic, optical or magnetic media. There are five major steps in digital file signature forensics
and they are as follows; first, there is creation of a precise physical replica of a digital media.
Second, there is loading of image on a formatted or rather on black hard disk. In addition, there is
the safeguarding of the original media on a sealed container. Lastly, there is marking and
recovering data of significant value. Step four mainly entails examining of image and exploration
of evidence. Since there are various files stored in a computer, there is always the need to minimize
search space in order to spot files that are suspicious and to make it easy for forensic examiners to
search for important data (Garfinkel, 2010). Most importantly, this step requires the use of signature
analysis which is a process whereby files, their extensions as well as headers are compared with
recognized databases of extensions and headers with an aim of finding out the files that may be
hidden on the storage media as well as authenticating them. Digital file signature forensics utilizes
seven major tools that assist in digital evidence collection and they are as follows; Disk and data
capture tools, Email analysis tools, File analysis tools, OS analysis tools, Network forensic tools
and data base analysis tools and registry and analysis tools. The tools have advanced such that they
can carry out various activities ranging from simple to advanced level. I intend to research on
Digital File Signature Forensics through two major ways mainly through print sources and
electronic sources. In relation to the print sources, I will start up by scanning through chapters,
headings and table of contents to ensure that the print source have information that closely related
to my topic. Lastly, in relation to electronic sources, I will research through World Wide Web and
the internet for information relevant to digital file signature forensics.

Overview
This paper is discussed through analysis the subject in details and with examples
Various steps in forensic data analysis are discussed together with what happens at each step
Further, the tools that help in the process are highlighted together with what they do
In conclusion an analysis of the strategic application of the analyzed results is discussed

Steps in DFSF
Creation of a precise digital replica of the digital media
Loading of image on a formatted or blank hard disk
- Safeguarding the of the original media securely
Marking and recovery of the important data
Image examination and exploration of evidence
6
Step 1: Replica creation
A new file is created
It has to be exactly the same as the original
This ensures that the factors match with the original filer
It makes the results more precise and accurate
7
Step2: Securing on a blank hard disk
A formatted hard disk or a blank one is used
This is to ensure that no conflict or infections
The hard disk holds it securely for reference
The hard disk has to be safely stored out of risk
8
Step 3: Marking and recovery
All important data files are market for easy identification
The recovery process is initiated to get the files being
required
The recovered data is securely stored for reference
Step 4: exploration of evidence
The image in this exercise is examined
Evidence is then explored from the files
A report is presented giving the findings
9

Conclusion
Further verification is done after the analysis to ensure that the information is
admissible in court
This helps in the protection, recognizable accreditation proof, gathering and
reporting PC proof in all medias,
It is an effective way of collecting digital forensic evidence to support cases
