Portfolio Proposal
Nintendo is one of the leading companies in the entertainment industry. They currently
specialize in the videogame industry but also extend to movies and television. I believe they are a good
match for this project due to their size and how open with the public they are. As a whole Nintendo is
one of the largest companies and one that in one way or another have touched every person in the
world now-a-days.

Organization’s business model
Market share
Nintendo has its market share, which allows the company to have control over its thirdparty software developers. Here, they get to create games by encouraging the developers to do
their best from the NES. Nintendo has, over the years, had an agreement with the NES of
producing more than five games every year. They as well have a deal on producing titles on
compatible game cartridges for NES and selling them back to the developers. Here, it allows
them to market and creates a distribution channel for the games. According to Zentner (2016),
the creation of new innovative titles boosts sales, which ever since has had Nintendo claim a
market share of 79\% in the US market. It occurred in the late 90s when the company was not the
only company that was making a profit at the time. But it has ever since with time grown to
thrive as an entertainment industry that produces games and videos for a long time now.
Customer base
Nintendo has its customer base on individuals interested in their games. It is a company
that does well in the delivery of unique game experiences. It thus requires them to set up suitable
consoles that can work to generate more returns from the company. With this, it, therefore,
works together with its shareholders into trying to give their customers unique experiences by
their services. Despite having new competitors from time to time, they manage to keep up their
customer base by creating free plays within their devices. It allows them to maintain a potential
customer base, which is larger compared to the console market. Through creating free players,
they manage to convert a small percentage of the layers into their customers, which are a
technique that works to improve their profitability.

Revenue
To be able to operate its functional activities, the primary source of revenues for the
company is in the sale of video games. An example is in 2019, where the company managed to
raise a total of third-best quarter mobile revenues since 2016. The company raised a gross of $85
million worldwide on Google Play and App Store. Creating top-selling video games has been
one of the primary objectives of the company. Similarly, their efforts have been seen over the
years as they have been striving to bring up their titles through new games they launched. It, in
turn, has been successful in bringing them more players who come in and contribute to their
revenues. It is thus through these sales that they get to benefit from expanding their business
operation an adopting new methods which allow them to compete favorably in the market.
Competitors
The most significant competitors of Nintendo are from Microsoft, which arises from their
new inventions. The effort by Microsoft to come up with new role playing titles and games has
been a threat to Nintendo. Numerous technological advancements have been made, such as the
PC games with sound blasters on Microsoft windows that have been taking over the market.
Additionally, there has been an increase in game consoles over the years, such as the
replacement of the 2D graphics by the 3D environment. The limited sound games have equally
ben replaced by stereo audio recorded in professional sound studios, which produces creates
tough competition for Nintendo. Also, being entrenched to youth culture, the company faces
tough competition from Angry Birds, Pokémon, and Candy Crush within the industry. Gransden
(2017) explains that they all similar titles with new trends that threaten the ability of the
company to console gaming.

Supply Chain Management
Nintendo has, over the years, worked to level up its supply chain management by taking
several measures to improve it. An example is in the case of purchasing market stock in JESNET
in 2016, which subsidized the company. It took up the initiative of acquiring a total of 70\% of
JESNET to help in boosting their delivery of services to its customers. It, in turn, had positive
impacts, which enhanced collaboration in the development of the supply chain. Product
development was equally boosted, which also improved their decision-making process and
improving their sales competitiveness. Customers usually require quality services from the
organization in which the efforts by Nintendo can be seen to be useful in bringing out the best for
the company.
Additionally, the company has been making several adjustments within the supply chains
to foster alignment with new stakeholders. Games (2015) points out that this has worked
immensely over the years to support new stakeholders in the process of decision making. The
company has been expected to take more adjustments to improve its operation management
through the supply chains. There has been a need for appropriate tools that can work to minimize
cases where disruption occurs within the supply chain. Nintendo purchased JESNET, which was
a good move, but it still is expected to work on the disruption that arises from subsidizing it and
ensure that it brings out the best out of the initiative.
Nintendo has also been integrating its market suppliers into getting tighter in the supply
chain. It has thus pushed the company into creating good supplier relationships with which data
collected from it serves to provide information on how to operate the supply chain. They manage
to build collaboration within the supply chain by encouraging data collection, which has been
Nintendo

useful in supporting them in integral roles within the process. The supply chain requires quality
data which they keep up with it by conveying relevant information to its suppliers.
Customer Relationship Management
Customer relationship management is built-in Nintendo considering its one of the biggest
companies in the entertainment industry. Its ability to create good relationships with customers
has been one of the factors behind it. The company always puts its customers first by seeking out
to understand their expectations in video games. By being familiarized with their needs, they
manage to make necessary changes, such as upgrading their components and machinery to meet
their tastes (Wesley & Barczak, 2016). Most of its content uses a bonus that encourages its
portability for its customers and giving the players freedom.
The company has equally been switching to bringing new features in their video games
through numerous transitions. It has had them put their customers as the priority by offering to
give them nothing but the best 3D games with their console launch. Being an entertainment
company, they seek to come up with modern games that can give them features to improve their
selling point. They thus are forced to engage their customers from time to time by use of their
online features. Online interaction helps in building more customer relationships as they also
analyze the reviews from customers to identify their views.
Lastly, the company has gaming deals, which they use as a strategy to attract its
customers. Here, they make use of these deals to capture them by use of deals such as new
accessories, consoles, and cyber games. These digital trends also work to create opportunities for
their customers to have access to their latest games and videos. They usually apply on shopping
holiday seasons where they get to make the best of it by gifting their customers with gifts and
deals that act to show appreciation for supporting their services.
