Integrated Critical Analysis: Children and Tv Violence
The increasing advent of technology and the prefoliation of television usage in most
homes has resulted in issues related to children and tv related violence. Notably, the increased
violence among children has been led by increased streaming of different violent programs
leading to increased child anxiety and corresponding aggressiveness. Besides, the violent
program has promoted insecurity among children, scaring kids leading to the development of
psychological issues (Anderson & Pamper, 2015). Psychological researches in the past have
depicted that media plays a significant role in shaping the behavior of the children; thus,
watching violent program leads to increased anxiety and violence among children.
Cause and Effect Critical Analysis
Long hours on TV
The first cause of children and TV-related violence is the exposure of the children for
long hours on television. Today most parents are allowing children to stay on TV for more than
fours as a way of soothing their children, which exposes the kids to different programs running
on the TV. Although some of the programs are beneficial to the children, a significant number of
the aired program results in detrimental psychological effects leading to an increase in the
instances of violence among children. Often, violent programs instigate and mold the violence
behavior among children, especially for kids exposed to the programs for longers hours. The

violence arises while the children try to imitate a program they watched, leading to the growth of
childrens violence due to exposure of kids to the television for long hours.
Lack of Parental Guidance
The second cause is the lack of parental guidance. The of increased violence among
children recently is the lack of parental guidance in programs that the kids are watching in
mainstream television. In most cases, the parents are not available to provide the needed
guidance while their children are watching various programs. Parents are working long hours and
often the children are left n the care of others. As a result, children often watch program that
needs parental guidance without the availability of their parents/ guardians in most cases related
to different forms of acts of violence. The effect has resulted in evidence growth of violent
incidents among children, poor concentration in school, among other psychological issues
leading to poor development of the children.
Lack of Program Control by the Parent
The third cause is the parent not controlling what their children watch on the television or
media devise. Parents do not take time to ensure that they manage the programs that their
children are watching, which have created a loophole for their kids to watch programs with
violent content. The consequences have been children becoming violent, aggressive, and
anxious, as a psychological effect emanating from watching free programs that contain violent
programs on the TV (Cohen, 2017).
CHILDREN AND TV VIOLENCE

Lack of Control by the Main Stream Media
The last cause the the non-regulation of mainstream media. These are sites like Instagram
and Facebook. The mainstream television/media has played a significant role in the evident
psychological effect seen on children today. Notably, authentic mainstreams should have control
of the programs streaming in particular hours during the days, especially the hours when children
are watching the television or viewing media. Notably, the mainstream media control of the
program would limit children from watching violent programs, thereby controlling the violent
behavior depicted by children due to watching the violent program.
Reaction to the Cause and Effect
The selected cause and effects have been severe societal issues associated with childrens
violence and watching violent programs. Another study with a sample of 707 families found that
mean TV viewing time at age 14 was significantly associated with aggressive behavior at age 14
and 22 (Coker et al. 201). For instance, exposing the children for longer hours on tv has resulted
in children watching programs with violent content leading to adverse effects among children.
Similarly, lack of parental guidance, lack of program control by the parents, and lack of control
by the mainstream media have as well as played a significant part in the increased violence
among children. The effect of the causes has been increasingly violent actions among children in
the recent past.
Besides, enacting necessary measures for the selected causes would prevent the evident
psychological behavior among children leading to increased aggressiveness, violence, and

anxiety. Notably, the control would involve limiting the number of hours on tv, control the
program the kids are watching, including control of violent programs often associated with
cognitive issues (Kostyrka-Allchorne, Cooper, & Simpson, 2017). The outcome would be less
violence among children, even with the advent and use of television.
The most significant problem is allowing the children to watch tv for long hours,
exposing them to content with violence. In most cases, the children watch tv uncontrolled for
more than fours, which presents the kids to programs that contain violent content. In this case,
limiting the number of hours children stay on TV would enhance the ability to control kids
watching violent programs leading to evident violent incidents among children. Repeated
exposure to violent media biases peoples world‐views so they come to believe that the world is a
hostile place and this in turn increases the likelihood of aggression (Anderson, & Bushman n.d.)

Comment: This paper is not supported with peer-reviewed citations, as required. You only have one
citation for one cause, and it doesn’t even support the actual cause. In your Week 5 literature review,
your review of the resources found mixed information. Some support an effect on the behavior of
children after viewing questionable material and some did not. Yet, you continue to only support the
position that violent media exposure creates violence in children. This just is not supported in the
research literature. In this paper, you continued this position and then never supported your causes for
this position. You cannot use this paper for this section of the Capstone project. You need to redo it
and cite each cause of the problem. I noted APA format issues with your references. Use the resources
in the Writing Center for APA format and the APA Publication Manual.

Children Media and Violence
Undoubtedly, the media has played a significant role in shaping children’s behaviour as
noted by Coyne, (2017). Notably, media encompasses a wide range of platforms such as social
media, televisions, radios as well as the internet. In contemporary society, a significant number
of children can access at least one of the aforementioned media platforms. Many scholars have
examined the relationship between the media and violent actions among the children. This is
because of the increase in delinquent acts among the youth with an increase in violent media
programs. Most of the study points out a correlation between violent acts and aggressive media
content. This paper thus aims at critically analyzing the correlation between violent behaviours
and the media.
Most media platforms integrate violent and aggressive content that children can access
and imitate. The American Academy of Paediatrics recommends that children below the age of
two years should not be exposed to media content (Anderson & Pamper, 2015). Nonetheless,
many television programs are created for toddlers. In addition to the above, there are many
avenues through which they can access these contents such as smartphones, televisions, video
games, and computers. Secondly, there are no strict policies to help filter some aggressive
content contained in the media platforms. As such, this has made it difficult for parents to control
what their children view. Consequently, these violent and aggressive programs have adverse
impacts on the children as the children tend to emulate what they view hence develop violent
actions in the long-haul.
Parents, as well as journalists, do not take an initiative to ensure that there is a rating of
the programs that are aired in the televisions. Moreover, due to a busy lifestyle, some parents
hardly monitor what their children are viewing. In the end, these aggressive media content

reaches the children who are unable to differentiate between fictional and real. This influences
the children’s behaviour negatively as their perception of the world is altered. In addition to this,
from the age of 1.5 years, children tend to be sensitive to linguistic as well as sequential lucidity
of videos they are exposed to (Anderson & Pamper, 2015). As such, by watching these videos,
children have been imitating these acts and acting them out unconsciously.
Notably, children who are exposed to violent media content from an early age tend to
develop delinquent acts. According to Felson (2014), children tend to copy prescribed
behaviours when they are unable to comprehend the messages that are entailed in the videos.
Presently, children at a tender age are progressively watching television programs with the same
concentration as the adults. Even though there are not concerned with learning from these videos,
nevertheless they emulate these codes of conduct. As a result, they end up engaging in violent
crimes from a young age. Other studies have established that too much exposure to television
may impact a child’s language, cognitive and attentional development.
Conclusion
Overall, the media has contributed significantly to the increase in violent and aggressive
behaviours witnessed in the past few decades. The major contributors to this problem include a
lot of violent content integrated into the programs and a lack of effective policies to regulate
what the media develops for the children to view. On the other hand, the parents and journalists
have not been at the forefront in enforcing a rating system to control what the children are
viewing. With the sensitivity of the children from ages 1.5 years to language and motion,
children end up imitating these negative behaviours thus causing the pre-existing violent actions.
Consequently, too much exposure to the media has impacted the children’s language, cognitive
and attentional development as well as leading to an increase in delinquent actions.
