1.0 Project Initiating
1.1 Project Charter
An example of a project that was based on my previous work experience was on Web
Development. The project focused on updating XYZ.com, redesigning XYZ’s website in order
to accompany branding re launch, optimizing websites and converting Flash-based navigation
systems. Part of the project involved building websites, which tend to champion organizational
services and brands whereas my work specifically depended on wider web analytics processes in
tracking site productivity (Roeder, 2013). Furthermore, the project focused on complex
information that bases on projects’ scopes, technologies, budgets, and timeframes while
providing continuous updates that would ensure timely executions, especially on the project
deliverables.
1.1.1
Justifying the Project
In justifying the need for the project, it is easy to state that web designing as part of the
project remains essential especially in gathering high-level findings, which are statistically
backed within the website. Organizations are mostly fascinated by research that is related to their
customers. Therefore, the project, in this case, provides an almost perfect platform that will help
the company to garner data, which provides insights on ways in which it can reach its target
audience needs (Eskerod & Lund, 2013). Through the project, the company can simply develop
surveys through other platforms including the Survey Monkey. In the end, the company can
disseminate it across other social platforms and emails in getting adequate data.
4
While it is easy for the organization to assume it somehow knows its audience, such an
assumption can be misleading to the company. Therefore, the need to develop the website seems
justified since it will also allow the company to conduct its research before engaging in new
initiatives. In other words, web development gives the company a supporting quantitative data,
which leaves the organization with truthful and unbiased results that it can in the future
especially during its decision-making processes. Such information can assist the company in
planning its web development strategic plan.
1.1.2
Aligning the Project to the Organizational Strategy
When designing a web as part of the organizational project, in most cases, it is easy to
concentrate on making it appealingly attractive while overlooking the fact that the website design
must adhere to the company’s strategic plan. Like any other project within an organization, the
project relates to the company’s strategic plan. The company’s strategic plan focuses on
envisioning a funnel, which tends to reflect how customers go through the various decisionmaking processes (Roeder, 2013). An important strategic plan in line with the organization is its
marketing strategy, which remains important to the attainment or rather the success of the web
project. The strategic plan, in this case, helps in identifying the company’s objectives and
determining the tactics, it needs while seeking to accomplish them. An extensive analysis of the
modest landscape remains imperious especially to the success of the organizational project thus
from a design and strategy perspective.
Designing the web perfectly fits into the company’s strategic plan as the platform and the
framework are both used to ease consumers into the company. Normally, the company prefers
5
using its strategic plan to entice its target audience (Eskerod & Lund, 2013). However, the web
design makes the process less challenging given that the customers or rather the company’s
target audience can simply use the platform to gain access to the company. In other words, both
aspects tend to affluence customers into the buying process. The uppermost of the funnel tends to
exemplify the informational stage in line with the buying process.
1.1.3
Identification of Stakeholders
Cross-departmental collaboration with stakeholders during the project remains important.
Typically, stakeholders and strategists will work together throughout the project to ensure that it
ends perfectly. To fulfill the strategic business desires, the project will comprise of various
stakeholders including the external and the internal stakeholders.
Internal Stakeholders will include the project team, management, internal customers and
sponsors. The management will basically oversee the project within the company and will be
assisted by the project team. Team managers will also be involved in the process (Roeder, 2013).
The fact that the company will be sponsoring the project, the management will give the green
light towards the project whereas the project manager will sign the project charter.
External Stakeholders are individuals that are not involved directly during the project.
However, they are engaged from outside given that they tend to be affected to some extent by the
project. Examples of external stakeholders include suppliers, the media, subcontractors and the
local communities (Roeder, 2013). The media plays an essential in sensitizing the project to the
community. The government is also part of the external stakeholders and has some say in the
project.
