identifying and discussing CURRENT events Leadership-related news reports - Business Finance
Current Events:Students will be responsible for identifying and discussing Leadership-related news reports. Note: these must be CURRENT events, not something you find on a website that simply refers to a Leadership topic. Topics such as leading contemporary organizations, professional development assessment and planning, negotiating and managing conflict, leadership styles, appraising tasks to appropriately delegate and prioritize time, leading groups and teams, and many other Leadership related topics are frequently found in the business press. For these reports you are to tell us about the story and the source. This is one way that we will make the course very current and will explore the many Leadership related issues that are constantly in the news. Please follow the instructions in the attachments below.

Current Event Application Assignment
MGT 613: Leadership (MBA)
Formatting:
• 12pt font
• 1” page margins
• No page restrictions (typically 2-4 pages)
• You need to use paragraph, or complete sentence, format for this assignment
• Be sure to use the required headings to organize your paper
• REMEMBER the grading rubric is available for your review, check it twice before
submitting
Assignment:
Current Event Write-up
• Find an article on a current event (in the last 6 months) that relates to our course topics.
The article should be relevant to the specific topics we are covering in our chapters that
week (e.g., a specific leadership style, a leader in the news that embodies leadership
characteristics we are discussing, etc.)
• In the first section (do not forget the headers), write a summary of the article. Be sure to
summarize the facts in your own words and/or use proper APA citations both in-text and
as references at the end.
• In the second section, discuss the SPECIFIC topic in our course that the article relates to,
how and why. Discuss how it impacts the business world and integrate what you have
learned from our course topics this term.
• In the final section, share with us your views and opinions on the article and the topic as a
whole. Do you agree or disagree with the article? Why is the topic important? Elaborate
on your perspectives.
• You need to properly cite your references in APA format, with each write-up you should
have AT LEAST your textbook and your primary article. Be sure to include APA in-text
citations and an APA formatted reference page.
Submitting your Assignment (2 places!)
• Each Current Event will need to be submitted to TWO locations. First, be sure to submit
a copy to me under the ‘Assignments’ tab on Canvas.
• Second, you will need to post YOUR ARTICLE on the discussion board. Please include
your ‘Views and Opinions’ section as the content of your discussion board post, then be
sure to ATTACH the actual article or provide a working link to your article (Note: To be
eligible for credit the link must be working or the attachment must be present)
• Each of you will be reading the articles your peers post and responding to at least one.
Your responses should include what you learned from reading the article and any views
or opinions of your own you care to share. These responses should be about a paragraph.
Current Event Reports are an opportunity to APPLY our course topics to ‘real-world’ events and
discuss the impacts in the business community. Find companies or topics you are passionate
about! I look forward to reading more about your interests and perspectives.
