Ecommerce has been one of the biggest proponents to the globalization of business. It
and other technological advancements have aided man in gathering data and learning how to
better serve one another. Information systems aide firms in making smarter information-backed
decisions with the use of information technology. “Firms commonly invest in information
technology (IT) to innovate processes and achieve enterprise-wide cost reductions. A recent
survey of more than 2,000 chief information officers (CIOs), representing a total IT budget of
230 billion USD, placed cost reduction, efficiency, operational results, and business processes
improvement among the top 10 business goals for IT investments (Gartner Group 2013).”
(Konstantinos 2017) Information technology has rapidly evolved within the past years creating
immense volumes of data, and a need for information workers. I believe that previously,
information technology was seen as a beneficial aid in a businesses skillset, but today it is
almost a requirement. Keeping up to speed with emerging technology can be the deciding factor
in a businesss success. Customers have a set of expectations that producers must meet or
they will be replaced by a more competent firm. Information technology has brought a lot of
power into the hands of businesses. For example, ecommerce has made it easier than ever
before to gain customer insights from consumers all around the world. With this digital trend I
feel that privacy will become a big concern in years to come. Consumers are continually tracked
and studied over the internet in order for firms to gain competitive advantage. Businesses
should use information to better serve their customers by providing products and services that
truly enrich their lives. I feel that many firms place profit before people, and would rather create
a viral product than a very good product. IT and data grant firms valuable information that can
help them to streamline processes, create better products/services, connect with consumers,
unite their individual departments, and make wiser decisions across the board.

Technology began as more of a digital filing system where data can be stored on a hard drive rather
than on paper in a filing cabinet. Then the advances in electronic communication with email and the
internet revolutionized business. Today, Information technology (IT) has become an important
component of doing business for many firms and now represents the single largest category of capital
investment in the United States (Wimble, Singh, & Phillips, 2017). Technology has morphed from
the information we store to a tool we rely on for an increasing number of tasks: grocery grabbing,
lunch buying, presentation delivering, task completing, and much, much more. In most recent years,
the advent of mobile technology has made a huge impact, especially in point-of-sale transactions
such as shopping, eating, and transportation. The future of technology is the Internet of Things,
where smart data is transferred all around us. IoT is transforming our world into a living information
system as we control our intelligent lighting from our smartphone to a daily health check from our
smart toothbrush (Baltzan, 2017, p. 7). A perfect example of this is in retail and restaurants where
inventory and ordering new stock is a significant part of a managers job. With big data and the
Internet of Things, a computer can auto-order new inventory based on current stock and sales
predictions. Counting inventory at the end of the month could be done with a phone rather than a
calculator. For the consumer, this would mean being able to search for a specific product and have
near-field communications lead you step-by-step to the product youre searching for.
There are more companies in e-commerce now than ever before. There are many risks associated
with e-commerce, such as false advertising, fraud, and identity theft (Sabou, Avram-Pop, & Zima,
2017). A Christian e-commerce business should be characterized by honest advertising, clear
delivery promises, and safe data practices. This means being trustworthy, as the Bible says, These
are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that
are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false
oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.” (Zechariah 8:16-17). These principles apply to
business today as much as they did when they were written.

Information Technology Now and in the Future
Information Technology (IT) has developed to become an influential force in daily
activities. It has revolutionized many aspects of life, including business and communication.
For instance, IT is the dominant force behind the growth of e-commerce. It is undeniable that
IT solutions have become prerequisites for business success in the contemporary world, as
organizations of all sizes are applying these applications to build their consumer base,
penetrate new markets, learn business insights, and streamline their processes.
Additionally, management of information enables businesses to enhance the flow
between supply chain management activities hence amplified profitability (Baltzan, 2017).
Organizations, such as Amazon and Netflix, exemplify IT as the key to success in the modern
world (Baltzan, 2017). In the next five years, IT will advance further to accommodate the
emerging demands of the emerging consumer and businesses alike. From the Biblical
worldview, businesses are justified to reach and serve consumers globally with the help of
information systems, especially if they are in support of the cause of the gospel. Christians
believe the gospel should be proclaimed across the world for every individual to be a
testimony and a beneficiary of the teachings.
In fact, numerous religious websites providing services and products related to
religion have been established (Rawat, Upadhayay, & Tiwari, 2013). Christianitytoday.com
is among the most popular religious websites with the potential to lure consumers interested
in religious products and services (Rawat, Upadhayay, & Tiwari, 2013). Indeed, technology
and data are assisting organizations in making speedy, informed decisions, predicting
consumer behaviors, accessing consumer data, and streamlining processes involved in daily
operations (Wang & Hajli, 2017). Therefore, IT is invaluable in facilitating operations in
modern agencies.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NOW AND IN THE FUTURE
Conclusively, IT occupies prestigious status in the present-day world, given the
influence it has in the various spheres of living. IT solutions have mainly changed the way
organizations conduct their business and are behind the expansion of the e-commerce sector.
The future of IT will be characterized by further information system innovations directed to
satisfy the dynamic needs of the modern consumer.
