This simply means that the first draft, even if it is our best effort, will not be our best draft. Instead, many rounds of feedback and revision must be conducted before the product is accepted. Use the MEAL plan for organizing the paragraph to pursue doctoral-level standards for scholarly writing. The mnemonic MEAL has four letters, so all scholarly paragraphs will have a minimum of four sentences. · M - Your first sentence must be a topic sentence that states the m ain idea of the paragraph. · E – The next e vidence sentence(s) reports 3 references to research that substantiate(s) the main idea. Because they report evidence, all sentences in the evidence paragraph element require APA citations with references. · A - Provide at least one a nalysis sentence in your own words. Do not use quotations. Analysis sentences connect the evidence back to the main idea of the paragraph. The best analysis sentences are also cited with references. · L – Let’s conclude. The more cited evidence sentences you provide, the stronger case you build for studying the problem. Evidence from the Local Setting (Level 2 APA Heading) One paragraph - Use local evidence, not evidence from the literature unless it is a study in the local context. Use personal communications, local test scores, etc.) The Gap in Practice (or the gap in the literature about practice) (Level 2 APA Heading) One paragraph - Describe research from the past 2 to 3 years to show what has been discovered about your problem and discuss what still needs to be researched or discovered. References Bear in mind that the rubric & points for this assignment loosely follow the format of a capstone evaluation. This means that the four grades available, Novice, Emerging, Proficient, and Advanced, do NOT follow the traditional percentages of D, C, B, and A.  "Novice" is not a failing grade! Most of you are novices in academic writing and it would be normal for you to earn a novice grade on your very first writing assignment. Again, "Proficient" is not the equivalent of a B, it is higher than that. Problem Statement During the 2020-2021 school year when the pandemic forced schools to pivot to a virtual environment, school readiness goals were not met and children’s scores decreased by 25%. Lack of interaction can hinder children’s development and cause social withdrawal (Keller, 2020). Teachers used communication tools such as email, zoom, Seesaw, phone or text to communicate with students and parents. However, students continued to struggle. Learning occurs through hands-on experiences guided by an intentional facilitator (Virtual learning for early childhood students, n.d). To increase scores due to virtual learning, the learning tool Seesaw was used to teach students online virtually (Seesaw, 2014). Virtual learning has this positive impact on learning because children develop better hand-eye coordination and motor skills. These skills help them to form clearer images and improve their capabilities to solve problems (Keller, 2020). While the efficacy of virtual learning in supporting knowledge acquisition is widely mentioned by many researchers, schools still encounter adoption challenges. In their attempt to explore the opportunities and challenges associated with remote teaching following the outbreak of COVID 19, Ferri et al. (2020) find that pedagogical, technological, and social challenges deter optimal use of such tools. Using a qualitative research model, they observe that issues such as unreliability of internet connectivity and students’ lack of necessary electronic devices pose challenges to effective virtual learning. Similarly, Gillet-Swan (2017) stateds that virtual learning enables institutions to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach to education. However, he cautions against low engagement of learners who become physically isolated from their colleagues while using the technologies. Furthermore, he observes that such learners encounter many challenges to their full participation compared to their traditional counterparts. Such barriers may include lack of higher technical skills required to use the virtual learning tools and inability to learners to engage in effective group works.
