Purpose: - To exhibit what has been learned during the semester in regards to leadership development. - To strengthen personal philosophy of leadership by exploring strengths, areas of deficit and action plans for success. - To create a development plan that can be used beyond this leadership course. - To connect concepts discussed throughout the course for practicality in the development of personal and career endeavors. Portfolio must include: 1. Vision statement for personal development: A vision is a mental model of an ideal future state. ​I want you to develop a vision statement for your career and life, which provides a picture of your future, is grounded in values, and advocates a change towards a new or more developed state. The vision statement should reflect your future goals and aspirations. The vision statement should also give the reader(s), you and me, an idea of what you need to improve on. I expect this part to be no more than a paragraph. 2.​ College Vision: Where do you see yourself at the end of your College journey? 3. Areas of strength and areas of development: From what you know of yourself and what the self-assessment, ​list and describe three (3) areas in which are your strongest and three areas in which you need development. Explain why these identified areas matter and how they may affect your future goal(s). For your areas in need of development, specify in detail how can these be improved. 5. Goals: You will have to state your future goals (in accordance with your vision statement and your areas in need of development). ​Think about your goals in terms of five (5) areas: individual goals (self-improvement); interpersonal goals (relationship improvement); team/organizational (improve teamwork and organizational impact); civic community goals (be a force for good in the broader world); professional goals (positive influence on your profession). Choose any of these 5 areas to state your goal and make sure that you explain them by highlighting the following: why is it important? What benefit will you or others receive if you achieve this goal? You should have no less than 3 and no more than 5 goals listed. 6. Action plan: With the above stated goals and areas of development, provide an action plan of MEASURABLE ways you will improve on these areas. Be creative in this section of your development plan. Do NOT give simple statements such as, “In order to improve on my shyness, I need to talk more to people.” This kind of statement is mediocre. ​In-essence, you should describe strategies to meet each goal. Include action steps or changes you will need to make in order to achieve them. Also, include how your leadership strengths can help you in achieving your goal. You may wish to consider challenging assignments you will seek; developmental relationships you will look for with people who can provide mentoring and support; voluntary leadership roles you will seek; training you will need to complete; feedback you need to obtain; the means of reflection you will engage in; or other ways you will seek to achieve your goals. ​Please note, you must provide an action plan for each listed goal and an estimated realistic completion date. Give thoughtful consideration to this process, as it takes reflection and rewriting.
