According to Giardino & Hickey (2020), DNP nurses engage in politics in various ways; voting, campaigns, contributing money towards political causes, writing a letter about the nursing issue for publication, wearing party souvenirs supporting a candidate for election, attending district meetings for nursing organizations, running for a political seat in the national politics or the organization. The following is the outcome of my engagement with community politics.             I am currently working in one of the community hospitals in Miami. There are 150 professional nurses, 20 interns, 80 subordinate staffs 100 interprofessional employees. My organization receives over 300 patients daily. It has a reputation for quality services and cares outcome. my community has been receiving many crime cases such as burglary, robbery, and violence. In the past five years, we have recorded more than 2000 of these cases. My organization has been working closely with the local authority and community members to help reduce these cases. Our concern as an organization is to address these issues. Our reports show that over 100 of these cases are happening at a specific point within a town centre in the community. Our analysis of the areas revealed that the area is poorly lit and has many jobless people. From our analysis, we decided to write a letter to the major recommending the addition of more lights in the area and creating employment opportunities for the large population of youths. We also recommended that more resources be distributed to the area since the area is marginalized.             To our surprise, the mayor never replied to our letter, and this made us organize a campaign against the mayor and oppose his bid in the next election. As an organization, we mobilized the community and informed them about the mayors failures in addressing the major issue that affected the community. In the concluded election, we decided to support another aspirant for the position with the objective that our problem was going to be addressed. Our candidate won the election and immediately responded to our claims by giving over 200 youth jobs, adding security in the areas, and putting on more lights.             Since the changes were made, the community has enjoyed peace, and the number of crime reported in the area has dropped significantly. The rate of joblessness has also reduced considerably. Today, the area is safe and peaceful than ever before. Our action towards the fight for change led to a significant improvement in the communitys living standards, security, and well-being.              The competency skills I developed from this incident include managing up, interpersonal influence, social astuteness and sincerity. From the incident, I have believed that I can engage the community in fighting for their right. The incident also made me believe that engaging in politics is one of the critical aspects of championing the communitys right and addressing social issues in the community (Grace, 2018). Despite having developed these skills, there is still a need to develop my networking ability. This political competency skill will help me build relationships and generate effective working relationships by garnering support, negotiating and managing conflict both in my organization and my patients and the community (Walton, 2017). It will also help me identify better ways of solving negation rather than using a political approach.   Tweet DNANurse. @DNAnurses  As NDP nurses, we need to check the list of top nursing issues before voting to help us identify and elect the right leaders who will address our issues and fulfill our political mandate.     References Giardino, E. Week 2 The conditions in which people are brought up, how they grow, the way they live, work, and age, which shape a persons health, are referred to as social determinants of health. These determinants include socioeconomic status, level of education, neighborhood and physical environment, employment, social support networks, and access to healthcare. The social determinants of health have affected several people over the past few years. This has forced the government to address these determinants to improve patients health outcomes and reduce the disparities present in healthcare. The government and non-governmental organizations have taken several initiatives to address these social determinants. This essay explores one social determinant and the role that one can play to address this issue.  The social determinant which is impacting the quality of life and healthcare of a community is employment. People who have good-paying jobs have access to high-quality healthcare, which is vital for improving patient outcomes. Good paying jobs also make sure that people have access to better healthcare coverage instead of unemployed or poor paying jobs. Employment also makes it easier for American citizens to live in healthier neighborhoods, access education, secure child services and buy more nutritious goods (Artiga, 2018). Access to these things affects the health of individuals. A research carried out determined that unemployment has negative impacts on health outcomes. It also found out that people with better-paying jobs have a higher life expectancy (Magnan, 2017). Unemployed Americans have fair or poor health and normally have stress-related conditions such as cardiovascular diseases. My perspective about the social determinant of health is that it should be addressed as soon as possible to ensure that all Americans have a better quality of life and healthcare. I think the United States government can better address this issue by creating job opportunities to ensure that every person is employed. There are several roles that I can play to address the issue of unemployment (Palmer et al., 2019). The role I could do is advocate for employers to establish benefit programs that address diverse population health needs that can comprehensively and effectively address the value of their workforce human capital. I would also advocate for the creation of job opportunities to ensure that every person has a job. I would also advocate for the government to cater for the medical expenses of the persons who do not have the financial capacity to pay for their medical coverage. Catering of medical costs can be achieved through the government setting up medical coverage for these persons. Tweet Social determinants such as employment are affecting the quality of life and healthcare of Americans. The U.S government should take action to address this issue. There are several social determinants of health that affect the quality of life and healthcare. The determinant which was addressed in this assignment is that employment. Good paying jobs also make sure that people have access to better healthcare coverage instead of unemployed or poor paying jobs where the majority of the unemployed have a short life expectancy. The role I would play to address this issue is advocating for the creation of job opportunities.   References Artiga, S., & Hinton, E. Week 3 Political Advocacy  There are many problems that decision-makers experience. One of the problems that I was able to discuss with one of the decision-makers I met at the practicum was the burnout and nursing attrition characterized by their work. The policymaker said that burnout and attrition rates in nursing are significant issues that need to be addressed to promote holistic practice in clinical nursing. The policymaker proposed a need to develop new policies that can reduce burnout and attrition rates and increase mindfulness in nursing. My project will advocate for the need for the adoption of evolutionary concepts to explain the need for mindfulness in nursing rather than using Avant and Walker concepts. The use of evolutionary tools will ensure that there is change and transformations in nursing. It will also promote research and evidence-based practice in nursing to identify more advanced methods of improving mindfulness in nursing. The use of advanced analysis tools can provide more reliable, valid, and relevant data (Schock, 2020). My project can help address this problem by advocating for change in the policy regarding mindfulness by influencing DNP nurses to engage in research and develop advanced methods of addressing the issue of attrition and burnout in nursing by promoting mindfulness. My PICOT question is “How effective is the use of evolutionary concept compared to Avant and Walkers concept analysis in explaining the need for mindfulness in nursing and its significance in reducing burnout and high attrition rates in nursing to enhance holistic practice in clinical nursing before the end of the year?” The science model that I am considering using as part of my project is the socio-cultural translation model. The socio-cultural translation model is the translation as an interaction of social activity with social content (McNulty, 2021). The socio-cultural model is one of the modern psychological theories that emphasize the interaction between the people and the community they reside in. The model fosters engagement, competency, and collegiality in the healthcare sector to ensure holistic nursing and patient-centered care outcomes. The model also aims at empowering nurse’s compassionate relationship with the sick, their families, and the society in which the care is given. The project advocates ensuring the wellbeing of nurses and how nurses can be empowered to minimize the challenges that they face in their workplaces, such as inadequate pay and unsafe working environment (Risku & Windhager, 2013). The model focuses on the relationship between the delineated care strategy and the proven care outcome.  Other components of this translation model include state-of-the-art technology, education and tools, and other resources to enable nurses to develop an evidence-based practice to understand factors that determine the level of compensation. My projects priority is to advocate for the policy change on the use of conventional approaches to reduce attrition and burnout for nurses and introduce the use of evolutionary processes that will promote holistic practice in nursing and mitigate the challenges that the decision-makers are facing. My priorities will have support from practicum site decision-makers.     References McNulty, D. S. (2021). Obesity is a disorder where a person has excessive body fat, which increases the risk of other diseases in an individual, such as cardiovascular diseases. A person is normally compared obese if he has a body mass index of thirty or greater. This condition is a result of intake of more calories. A different organization is advocating for the implementation of several health initiatives to address this issue. The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act is one of the health initiatives that can help address this issue; therefore, it is important to discuss this initiative, including my thoughts.              The health initiative which is going to be discussed is the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act.  My thoughts on this healthcare plan are that it will benefit the country in addressing obesity.  It will benefit the country because obesity has become a major concern in the country. In the united states alone, 36.5\% of the adults have obesity, and seventeen percent of the American children between the ages of two to nineteen are obese (Hales et al., 2017). If this legislation is not enacted, then the mortality rate resulting from obesity-related diseases will increase. The tweet by Lisa McCormick gives information on the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act, which can help the American people to understand its importance. I support the legislation of this act because it will help reduce the number of people with obesity in the country. I support this acts legislation because it will expand the medicare coverage to ensure that people with obesity can be offered treatment and screening from healthcare providers specializing in obesity care.  This healthcare initiative will also offer coverage for food and drug administration-approved medications, which can help manage chronic weight (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2018).  This legislation will also remove barriers that have prevented several healthcare professionals, such as registered dietitian nutritionists, from treating Americans with obesity. The removal of this barrier will allow a variety of qualified healthcare professionals to treat obesity through intensive behaviroural therapy and prescribe other medications that can help treat obesity.  TheTreat and Reduce Obesity Act I can move forward in the current political climate of the government due to several reasons. The first reason is that the obesity epidemic has become a major concern in the united states of America. This concern will force the united states government to implement measures to deal with this epidemic, and the Treat and Reduce Obesity act is one of the ways which the government can address this issue. The second reason is that the bill has gained seventy-seven co-sponsors who will help with the legislation of this bill to become a law (Treat and Reduce Obesity Act of 2021, 2021). This initiative also has the hope of going forward because obesity worsens the outcome from COVID-19. Tweet Congress should pass the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act to help address the obesity pandemic to help decrease mortality rates due to obesity-related disorders. The obesity epidemic has become one of the united states major concerns over the past decade. The Treat and Reduce Obesity act is one of the health initiatives that can help address obesity. This legislation will expand the medicare coverage to ensure that people with obesity can be offered treatment and screening and remove the barriers that have prevented several healthcare professionals from treating American citizens suffering from obesity.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     References Hales, C. Week 5 Affordable Care Policy and Obesity among Learners in Miami             There have been increasing cases of obesity in my community for the past five years. in my community, reports indicate that about 17 percent of teenagers are obese. Other reports have also shown that overweight and obesity cases are rising among teenagers in my community due to unhealthy eating habits, lack of exercise, and information on the best practices that can be adopted to prevent obesity issues (Cardel et al., 2020). In 2015, about 20,000 teenagers were diagnosed with obesity in my community. The number is reported to have increased due to the challenges imposed by covid-19, which have forced children to stay at home and discouraged physical exercise. Obesity is a health issue that continues to give nurses, psychiatrists, and human service organizations many problems. The efforts to prevent obesity in my community, such as motivational interviewing, educating parents on how to deal with unhealthy eating habits, encouraging physical exercise, and advocating for food products with low sugar content, have helped reduce the health issue (Kornet‐van der Aa et  al., 2017). The move to enroll students in lunch and breakfast programs has also helped regulate the sugar content of the food products given to learners.             The healthcare policy I would advocate for as a nurse to address obesity in my community is the registration of all learners in district schools under the Affordable Care to ensure that they get healthcare services on health issues such as obesity. Obesity is a chronic condition that affects many people, and research shows that medical intervention at an early stage can help reduce the effects and dominance (Partridge & Redfern, 2018). Enrolling learners in ACA will help them access regular health check-ups, which will help health workers to diagnose obesity conditions at early stages to help the child with proper intervention approaches that will reduce this condition. Universal healthcare is one of the programs that have enhanced the wellbeing of people, especially those with chronic conditions such as stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Reports show that cases of health conditions like diabetes are currently declining because the majority of the people with these conditions have registered with Obamacare, which has made them receive high-quality care services, access care services at a reduced cost, and maintains regular medical check-ups (Sanyaolu et al., 2019). When teenagers in my community are registered with Obamacare, they will access medical services at a reduced cost and high-quality access services. Previous reports revealed that less than one-third of my communitys teenagers have universal health insurance programs (Partridge & Redfern, 2018). The analysis of this report showed that the poverty level in my neighborhood is high, and the unemployment rate is at a steady increase. These …
