DISCUSSION BOARDS GUIDELINES 1
• Post a minimum of three posts per Discussion topic. One INITIAL response/post and two 2
replies to your classmates. 3
• Posting on a minimum of 3 different days, for example: Wednesday, Friday, and Monday 4
• The first post must be made by Saturday, 11:59 p.m. EST (example) 5
6
(My comment: it is an example. It may be Friday or Saturday or Sunday. Say we submit our 7
INITIAL on Friday, then I will be able to reply to classmate’s INITIAL replies on Saturday and 8
Sunday. 9
So, my question is to you: How often do you check your email? How do I communicate to you 10
since these happens within 3-4 days) 11
12
Participating in Discussion Boards 13
You will communicate with your professor and classmates using the Discussion Board areas. 14
This is where you post your responses to Discussion topics and share your experiences in 15
completing exercises and applying the content of the course. Your postings should be 16
appropriate and timely contributions that add value to the Discussion. Your instructor will 17
provide you more detailed information about requirements and grading related to participation 18
in Discussions. 19
(My Comment: 20
Sometimes my professor may ask a question based on my INITIAL post which we have to 21
reply) 22
Tips for INITIAL post: 23
Discussion posts must occur in the week they are due. 24
You cannot reply to your classmate's INITIAL posts if you haven't submitted your INITIAL 25
post. 26
(My comment: They are saying that I have to submit my INITIAL post before I reply to my 27
classmate’s post) 28

Discussion Guidelines 61
62
To ensure your success as a contributor to Discussions and as a student in this class, we suggest 63
the following guidelines for posting: 64
• Be clear about which message you are responding to. Refer to specific passages or ideas 65
in the course or text that have sparked your interest. 66
• Make sure your contribution adds something new to the Discussion. 67
Unacceptable: "I agree." 68
Unacceptable: "I think the author is off her rocker on this point. I can't stand it when 69
techies try to write about education." 70
Think about how you can take the conversation to the next level. 71
• Make your posting clear and easy to follow by dividing longer messages into 72
paragraphs. 73
• Use correct spelling, capitalization, grammar, syntax, and punctuation. 74
• If you plan to post a lengthy response, it is a good idea to type your response in Word 75
or Notepad™, then copy and paste it into the Discussion area. This way you will always 76
have a record of your communication if for some reason you lose your connection to the 77
course. 78
• A rubric is a tool utilized by your instructor to determine your performance on 79
assessments (Assignments, Discussions, Seminars, etc.) throughout your course. 80
• The rubric lists the criteria for the assessment on which you will be graded. You should 81
follow the rubric so you understand exactly what is expected of you in each assignment. 82
• Following the rubric will help make sure you do not lose points unnecessarily on any 83
graded item. The rubrics for this course are contained in the Grading Rubrics sections of 84
the Course Resources 85

My expectation: A graduate student should be able to write cohesive sentences using
standard English. Grammar, punctuation and APA rules should be followed. No
dangling participles or split infinitives, ladies and gentlemen! Sloppy work will not
be tolerated and will be returned with a grade of 0.
You must answer all rubrics adequately.
The minimum number of pages (3) doesn’t include cover and reference pages.
Do not add sentences/paragraph which has no relevancy to your case studies – be specific –
need to be qualitative – these papers are very specific so you need to explain specific
guidelines

Just because the rubric doesn't require me to assess a score, I will use my professional
judgment.
This is graduate school. I expect graduate-level work and professionalism, as we are
all professional nurses. The minimalist approach will not be tolerated and I will not

Brian… You choose and follow web resources link!
Here is a sample of a peer who submitted INTIAL post. This would give you
some idea especially about: Item #1 and Item# 3.
Hello class My name is Stephanie Jones. I Live in Charlotteville. I do not have a special area
that I current work at r Hospital Flex team. I prefer to float from one unit to the next, after
seventeen years of nursing settling down in one unit is no longer an option for me. I believe
that all cultures are the same in what they belief and think. One culture may belief in the
supernatural to cure illness and other culture nay belief that spirits cause illness. I am a
Haitian descent and I grew up in a culture that believe in both white and black magic and that
herbal and bush medicine is the cure for all sickness. To be cultural competent we must first
understand one’s own cultural background.
Due to increase diversification globally, there has been an increased number of
culturally and linguistically different ethnic groups relocating from their countries of birth to
other nations. Indians are one of the different ethnic groups in the United States comprising of
people whose origin is India a country located in South Asian. In healthcare perspective,
Indians have proven to require cultural as well as linguistic assistance while seeking for health
services. This is highly promoted by the fact that Indian reveals diverse health beliefs, for
instance, it is a health believe that Indian men should not reveal the extent of pain, which
affects the patient care in terms of pain managements. Besides, most of the Indian are less
educated and reveals an ascent while communicating in English making it difficult to
converse efficiently leading to linguistics challenges while addressing the patient.
CLAS principle standard number five on Communication and Language Assistance is
one of the vital principles that would intensify the capacity of the Indian ethnic group in
receiving equitable care in a different cultural background (OMH 2016). The standard states
that “Offer language assistance to individuals who have limited English proficiency or other
communication needs, at no cost to them, to facilitate timely access to all health care and
services.” The standard is appropriate when dealing with the Indians because the highest
percentage are not able to express their needs using proficient English.
Advanced practice nurse plays an imperative role in the future of the health services
and cares for the patients. They comprise of various groups of registered practicing nurses
such as the nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse’s specialists as well as the
midwives (Newhouse, Stanik-Hutt, White, Johantgen, Bass, Zangaro, & Weiner, 2011).
Advanced practicing nurses are in most cases the primary care providers and leads in the
forefront in course of providing care to the ailing individuals. This promotes the instances at
which the nurses interact with people from different cultural and ethnic background.
Culturally sensitive care enhances the respect, knowledge as well as skill to the practicing
nurses providing the chance for offering effective care (Majumdar, Browne, Roberts, &
