"“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” ... Last Name 6 Student’s Name: Instructor: Course: Date: 2020 Presidential Election Outcome and Reasons for the Outcome The Outcome of the Presidential Election When all votes are counted, the presidential election may grant defeat to Donald Trump. However, to most individuals, no matter the outcome of the election, the new regime may fail to defeat the Trumpism ideology. Democrats had hopes that his four years of attacks on institutions and norms, turmoil, and deception, coupled with the pandemic that has resulted in other deaths of over 240000 individuals, should have caused a clean, quick, and overwhelming repudiation of the presidential election (The Guardian). Such issues would have clarified the country’s direction and a warning to the Republicans that their 2013 autopsy report has failed and should be reinvented (Zurcher). However, the results of the presidential elections did not visualize this picture. Trump has proven resilient. In doing so, he increased his votes in Texas, Florida, and other states (The Guardian). He received votes from more white-class citizens relative to the previous election. He chipped away some form of democratic support from people of color, such as Latinos. Besides, Trump’s cult-of-personality, his election campaigns were rambunctious and enthusiastic as ever (The Guardian). In other words, the presidential Outcome has proven that Trump's 2016 victory was no fluke since his sexism, lie-telling, and racism have been encouraged and legitimized. When the election tallying process was ongoing, No candidate between Bidden and Trump would incredibly claim that they had won yet, and both had the potential of winning. Without declaring he has won, Mr. Biden argued that he believed that his democratic campaign had done an exemplary job and would prevail. However, Mr. Trump representing the Republican community claimed that he had won. In the process, his campaign team has gone ahead to file lawsuits in two states where Biden had received majority votes (The Guardian). The election results took days to be counted. When several primary states in the United States still had to submit their voting results, the Biden team claimed that they anticipated winning since they always hoped to succeed in various remaining states (Zurcher). On the other hand, the Trump team also claimed that they had a majority in the States still in their favor (The Guardian). Based on these two scenarios, the 2020 presidential election was on course for the most extensive electoral turnout in over a century. In other words, over one hundred million individuals voted on early voting day, whereas tens of millions added more votes on Election Day. Based on the election results, Mr. Donald Trump defined the election polls as exemplarily better than what many individuals expected. In the United States, most individuals decide state-level contests as opposed to the final single national vote count. For instance, for one to be the United States president, they need to win in more than 270 states or otherwise called the Electoral College (The Guardian). In this case, each State in the United States is granted a certain level of votes partly related to the population and this totals to around five-hundred and thirty-eight votes. Mr. Bidden won in Michigan, one of the battlegrounds that made Donald Trump President the previous election (Zurcher). Although the polls in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania were close, Biden emerged the Winner. Although Trump was leading in Pennsylvania, mail votes overturned his lead. Republicans living in Wisconsin argued that they would request their votes to be recounted since they claimed there were irregularities in various States. Besides, the Trump campaign has also filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Michigan. Mr. Bidden also attached Arizona, which previously was a conservative state. Based on the election results, many believed that regardless of Biden’s campaign, Trump would claim wins in State of Florida and Texas. Although Biden’s team was expecting an upset in this States, Trump emerged victoriously (The Guardian). Although Georgia and North Carolina were very close and were leaning Trump's way, Bidden emerged victorious in Georgia, whereas Trump only managed to clinch North Carolina and this acted as a plus on the Biden’s team. While Missouri and Ohio had often predicted the presidential Winner, Trump appeared victorious in these states. He also emerged as the Winner in Nebraska. But, Mr. Bidden gathered one vote in this State resulting to an added advantage in the Electoral College, which eventually proved crucial (The Guardian). While the two candidates were battling for the electoral votes, Bidden took an early lead with more than 2.5 million votes more than Trump (Zurcher). Some individuals believed that this was a repeat of the 2016 election where Hillary Clinton received over three million votes relative to Trump in 2016 but ended up losing the elections. Donald Trump has been telegraphing for a better part of the election accusing his democrat counterparts of committing irregularities and stealing history. Mr. Biden’s lawyer claimed that any presidential challenge would result in the most massive and embarrassing defeat that the United States president has ever experienced before the Supreme Court (The Guardian). Trump's actions are the doomsday that many Americans feared where the president of the most powerful State on the land would accuse its election process and undermine the ballot –counting. Ballot counting is a process that takes days and even in normal circumstances. Some voters have resorted to early voting or postal voting in vast numbers due to the ongoing pandemic. Although the Vice president attempted to clear Trump's remarks on election counting, he declined to declare premature victory (The Guardian). He insisted that the total number of legally cast votes will be considered. The manner he behaved was in line with how a United States president is expected to act amid an election campaign (Zurcher). Besides, many people believed that where Trump emerged the Winner or not, he had already declared a pall on the ongoing election. In other words, Trump had questioned the credibility of democracy and its primary machinery. Reasons why this was an outcome As the American citizens and the rest of the world waited for the election results, the incumbent United States president stepped onto a press conference in the White House and undermined the electoral process's integrity. He made these remarks in the wake of the election results that were leaning towards Mr. Joe Bidden. Many individuals were less surprised since he had spent time laying a baseline for a moment. In most of his election campaigns, he had raised concerns about the mail-in ballots (Zurcher). He had also dismissed several election officials before the actual election from democratic cities and states as political hacks. He had also demanded that the results be announced on Election Day, something that has never happened in the United States history. The questioning of the election process issue had circulated the Leadership forums and chambers in the United States. It belies the real facts about how the elections in America are carried out where it is rare to witness voter fraud. Although his tirade aligned with his previous misstatement on American elections, it was disgusting to hear those words from an American president. It triggered new and fresh anxiety on whether the United States will have a peaceful presidential transition. Joe Bidden is projected as the Winner of the 2020 presidential election because of his ability to convince enough voters that he is the best person to address the coronavirus pandemic. Besides, he also convinced people that he had the appropriate temperament for the top position. In states where he won, Statistics indicate that voters who supported him focused on a candidate with the proper judgment and wanted an individual who could act as a uniting force (Williams). However, uniting the country may be challenging since the Trump supporters indicated that they never classified Corona as a severe problem (Zurcher). Moreover, half of Trump's supporters also note that they are afraid that Biden may not take the country forward as people anticipate. During the 2016 election, both Trump and Hillary Clinton were unfavorable candidates by the national electorate. However, during the 2020 election, more voters have a favorable perception of Biden (Montanaro, and Jin). Although Trump’s favorably received some boost from what was seen four years ago, more voters had a wrong impression or negative opinion about him. Biden was expected to win the ongoing election because he outscored Trump because of his temperament. Although Trump has improved on this facet relative to what was seen in 2016, over fifty percent of the United States voters felt that he lacked the right temperament for the job. In other words, the character played a crucial role in Biden’s campaign. Biden achieved a maximum score in this relative to Trump for individuals looking for someone who has the right personality to unite and act with good judgment (Montanaro, and Jin). Besides, Bidden won the election because he was able to forge a coalition of voters across the country. For instance, the independents in 2016 swing towards Trump, but they supported Biden this year was an indicator that Biden had a chance of winning this year’s election. Bidden won by amassing a 14 point lead nationally, the largest number since Bill Clinton in the 1996 election. Works Cited Zurcher, Anthony. US Election results: Five reasons Biden won.
