all guidelines like source count and rubric on paper will be added upon acceptance of project. this assignment is to “forge a document that could plausibly be from one of the societies we have studied this semester. the paper is due may 5th 5pm PST.
hi this is guideline for paper
Source Forgery
If you choose this option, you will first create a text that mimics the works we have read this semester. The parameters here are broad, but you must choose from among the genres we have read (a wide, but not unlimited menu, including histories, travel narratives, poems, administrative documents, inscriptions, and letters). The forged text should be as plausible as you can make it. You will therefore need to consider carefully who would have made such a text and for what purpose. Likewise crucial to keep in mind is the intended audience for the work. Throughout, your fake text should reveal your knowledge and understanding of the premodern world we have studied.
The length of your forgery will to an extent depend on the conventions of the genre you choose to imitate, but try to keep it around 2-4 pages. If necessary, you can think of your source as a discrete part of a larger work.
In addition to your forgery, you will write a succinct “justification essay” explaining the decisions you made in your text. Why did you choose the genre and theme that you did? What ideas about the past, and what specific examples, inspired your creation? What context(s) do you see your forgery fitting into? In this section, you should cite all readings that served as models for your work, along with any primary or secondary sources that you used to help with background or details. The justification essay should be around 3 pages long.
Both the text you create and the justification essay should be double-spaced, in an 11- or 12-point font, with 1-1.25” margins.

Nordeide, Sľbjżrg Walaker, and Kevin J. Edwards. The Vikings. Arc Humanities Press, 2019.
The source mimics class material and lecture notes on Vikings. It showcases a new perspective and overview of the Vikings from the material and conceptual perspective. According to the forgery source, in most instances, a Viking is shown as a fierce and fury male associated with distinctive material culture and military expansion. In a written research analysis, Kevin Edwards and Walaker Nordedie mimics class materials in such a way that they explore the economic life, Viking religion, and material culture that exists beyond the normal scandic regions. While there is a renowned timeline ranging from the Conventional Viking period of ca AD 8000 to approximately 1050, the military battles and exploration commenced earlier and were focused eastwards. As a result, the Scandinavians were forced to extend their stay towards the Baltic costs to Constantinople. They also moved to Iberia, France, South, and west and later moved to the Ireland and the islands of Great Britain.[footnoteRef:2] They also concentrated on settlement, invasion, trade, and other avenues of trade. The book also notes that since then, the Vikings have been crucial in keeping resonance in the prominent imagination until today. [2: Nordeide, Sľbjżrg Walaker, and Kevin J. Edwards. The Vikings. Arc Humanities Press, 2019.
]
Since then, whether they are viewed as barbarians, invaders, or warriors, the forgery source mimics class material by arguing that the Vikings are mostly seen as one-dimension warriors whose achievement revolves around raiding and plundering. As opposed to what many individuals believe, Vikings were not a race connected with shared patriotism or ancestry and could not be explained by any specific belief of Viking-ness. However, most renowned Vikings emerged from different regions such as Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. However, the book indicates that there are also notable mentions in sections such as Estonian, Finnish, and Saami Vikings. The major difference between them and other European indigenous populations of their period is that most of them emerged from a foreign land. They were less civilized in the domestic comprehension of issues of the globe, and they were not Christians. Their original homeland was rural and lacked any notable cities or towns. Most of them earned their living through subsistence fishing and agriculture. The developments in shipping technology implied that sails-powered boats were available, hence making long ships possible.
The forgery source mimics the class material on Vikings through its explanation of the Viking ship. It notes that at the center of their values, norms and beliefs was the Viking ship. According to the forgery source, the vessels acted as extraordinary transporting ships and played a crucial role in sparing the lifestyle and lives of the sea-faring Norse. They also revolutionized the history and lives of Europeans. The forgery source also mentions that the Norse had exemplary skills and honed their vessels for more than ten years. Regardless of the size, most of them were created to appear narrow towards the end, filled with short vertical distance drafts between the bottom and the waterline mark of the ship[footnoteRef:3]. The characteristics provided them with extreme flexibility for adoption in both the rivers and the ocean. It also encompassed the bow to the stern, which played a crucial role in leveraging its speed and stability. In doing so, it curbed the unwanted lateral movement. [3: Nordeide, Sľbjżrg Walaker, and Kevin J. Edwards. The Vikings. Arc Humanities Press, 2019.
]
The forgery source mimics the class materials on Vikings since it also explores the meaning and implications behind the Viking age. It indicates that Scandinavia was the Viking’s renowned homeland, making contemporary Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. They traveled to North America through the sea and by river and other areas around the world. The only information available on the Viking age is obtained from sagas, poetry, archaeology, treaties, sayings, and the writings of individuals in Asia and Europe with whom they interacted and net. There is very little known or documented evidence regarding their movements. Besides being warriors, they were renowned craftsmen and boat-builders, extensive traders and explorers, which resulted in the Viking travel and Viking trade. For this reason, the renowned Viking age and the interaction is the period between 800 and 1150 AD.
Most contemporary perceptions regarding the history, origin, and promulgations of the Vikings are rooted in Catholic doctrines and propaganda. The forgery source notes that after the sacking of various Christian centers and the loss of various treasures and relics, the catholic ministry focused on dehumanizing them. It was not until the intervention of Queen Elizabeth that the Vikings were accepted in society. Initially, they were still shown as barbaric and violent people. In the wake of the twentieth and nineteenth century, individuals changed their perceptions about them where they were now seen as courageous and noble characters with a proud heritage, horned helmets, and a feared ability in war[footnoteRef:4]. Thus, the forgery source also attempts to eradicate some of the feared myths about the Vikings. It mentions that it is false to view Vikings as individuals wearing horned helmets. It is also false to see them as unkempt and faulty people in society. Although the living conditions in the Scandinavian region were unwelcomed and harsh, most Vikings suffered from resource scarcity, and the individuals established their homes with a lack of real and unified leadership. Although some of them were controlled and directed by their quest for richness, several focused on seeking peaceful economic interactions with their neighbors. Justification Essay
Why Did You Choose The Genre And Theme That You Did?
I chose the Vikings as the genre, and the theme because the first images that exist whenever individuals talk about them are that of barbaric, violent, and savages responsible for the terror experiences on Northern Europe. Besides, the images are also promulgated in various films, poems and narratives relative around the Scandinavian people. Although such proclamations’ may be inaccurate to some level, they may not be true. They are responsible for a reasonable number of stories, works sagas, and a poem that have played a crucial role in shaping the face of the contemporary science fiction and fantasy. I believe that it is evident that without the frequent references of the traditional literature in Scandinavian, it is difficult to see some of the global poems or fictions such as Tolkien’s Hobbit[footnoteRef:5]. The Vikings are also responsible for some famous structures such as the Albingi, the first global parliamentary government. I chose Vikings also as an important topic because they have amicable knowledge about their stars and the calendar, making them the first community to comprehend the cosmos. Thus, beyond their agriculture, political savvy, and literary they are also prominent in traveling around the globe through the help of their knowledge of the planets and the stars. In other words, through the exploration of Vikings as a theme, it is possible to understand how trade, fishing and other agriculture practices spread across the Northern European countries. What Ideas About Your Past, What Specific Examples, Inspired Your Creation?
The thing that inspired my findings is that I realized how important constellations were during the ancient period while watching the stars one day. My grandfather had told me many stories about how people in the ancient period used stars constellations to tell the month and period. Hence, traditionally, for an individual’s living during this period, to have information and knowledge about the stars and calendar was an important facet in determining many economic activities. Their knowledge of traveling in boats could have only been possible with capable skills in understanding timelines and calendars. Although we have learned various types of constellations and how meteorologists use them in the contemporary eras, I believe that the science capacity demonstrated by the Vikings is an indicator of how effective science can be in showcasing the advent and direction of nature. Their science level was also amicable since for individuals to cross the sea for trade and global exploration. They had to comprehend more information than just thumping individuals with swords[footnoteRef:6]. Although they were feared warriors, they were also good in trading activities and imparting their technology knowledge. For instance, there have been stories where Scandinavian kings commissioned their long ships because of their adaptability and reliability. Their craft, art, and tools have also been excavated in various archeological locations around the globe. Their literature welcomed a wave of various highest-selling movies, films, and books[footnoteRef:7]. Another important facet is that the Vikings were also responsible for a government that has served as a model for many other countries and empires. Practically, the Vikings are among the major cultures that enlightened the world in the same breath as Romans and Greeks. [6: Lecture Material. Week 12 oriental. What contexts do you see your forgery fitting into?
The forgery source is likely to fit into a historical context of the theme and genre. The source offers a clear overview of the history of the Vikings. It goes ahead to explore some of the issues that make them unique and distinct. It also notes some of the issues that make the Viking Period a legendary era in history. In the Scandinavian timeline, few instances make sense relative to the Viking Age. The book has also narrated the fascination associated with history and how their cultural legacy is still celebrated in the contemporary era[footnoteRef:8]. The most interesting thing about the historical context of the source is that it explains who the Vikings are, gives its brief history lessons, the phase of the Viking Age, and the Viking ships. In doing so, it offers a chronology of events and how the Vikings managed to penetrate Europe. Initially, it is difficult for an individual to understand the regions making the Scandinavian countries. However, after reading the book, it is possible to know that Denmark, Sweden, and Norway are the home of Vikings. The book also offers a different perspective about the Vikings relative to what many people associate them with. For instance, instead of presenting them as fiery, violent, and savage, the book acknowledges that scientific and technological ability played a crucial role in shaping the face of fishing and traveling worldwide.
