HELP DUE IN 2 HOURS - Education
2 PEER RESPONSES DUE IN 2 HOURS KIMBERLY’S POST: 1. To demonstrate that you understand the three models of management ethics – moral, immoral, and amoral – give an example from your personal experience of each type. Do you agree that amorality is a serious problem? Explain. Moral- I used to do hair on weekends, whenever I had free time. I had a client who was getting married, and she paid me two months in advance to secure her date. Typically, I don’t accept money before styling my clients, but I did because she insisted and wanted to pay all her debt. The date came for me to style her hair and after I finished, she tried to pay me for my services. She had forgotten that she had already paid me in full. I am a very honest person; I will never take advantage of anyone because if you want trust you have to be honest. Immoral- I once worked for a company that I’ve seen a lot of immoral behavior. I had a permeant schedule to where I worked Mondays- Fridays from 7am-4pm with an hour lunch break. This schedule was perfect for me considering that I had small children. A new supervisor came in and changed most employees’ schedules without notice and appeared to not care of how it affected anyone. In this situation I felt that it was immoral for a new manager to come in and make these kinds of changes and not caring how it could or would affect the employees. This should have been a discussion and it would have been thoughtful if time was giving to make the necessary adjustments that will affect our daily lives.     Amoral- Since Covid-19 has come into our lives, it has made an impact on everyone. I work in an office setting that employ over fifty employees. We had a few employees that is on the floor that I work on who contracted Covid-19. Every employee in this office has the capabilities and the necessary things that are needed to work from home. I had a manager who decided that she would work from home when the employees contracted Covid-19, but she didn’t extend the offer for the other employees to work from home until the building was sanitized. I feel that her actions showed a lack of care for her employees. Yes, I do feel like amorality is a serious problem. I think that people should treat people how they want to be treated. I think people that blatant disregard other people feelings are just mean, wrong, and selfish. 2. From your personal experience, give two examples of ethical dilemmas. Give two examples of ethical dilemmas you have experienced as a member of an organization. I had a co-worker that was in school, instead of her utilizing her time to complete her daily duties she did her homework on the clock. That affected me and the other employees because we had to pickup her slack. That is stealing time from the company and using the company supplies for her personal gain. Another example is that I had gotten a raise, and no one was aware of it because it is confidential. I had a few employees that approached me about it, asking was it true. I made my supervisor aware of the situation and after investigation, a Human Resource Representative had discussed it with another employee who told others. That goes against the company rules and regulation.   3. Is it an exaggeration to question the ethical implications for business of cell phone and text-messaging use? Discuss both sides of this issue. I don’t think that it is an exaggeration to question the ethical implications of using a cell phone for business. Cellphones are the quickest way to give feedback, but I do believe that if it’s against the company policy to not use it on the company time then you shouldn’t. You would just have to wait until your break or lunch to return the call or reply to the message. If you work for a company that requires you to drive, you should have common sense to not operate it while driving. 4. Differentiate between a bribe and a grease payment. Give an example of each. Bribe- A bribe is telling someone that you would hire them if they did something for your personal gain. Grease Payment- An example of a grease payment is paying someone to skip the line to enter the club faster. If you wouldn’t have paid to skip the line, you would have to have waited your turn in line just like everyone else would have. SHANICE’S POST: 1.  To demonstrate that you understand the three models of management ethics – moral, immoral, and amoral give an example from your personal experience of each type. Do you agree that amorality is a serious problem? Explain. Moral- I work as Library Technician, and most of my job consist of checking items in and out and assisting patrons with Technical issues or computer literacy  like navigating the tools on the computer and operating equipment like scanning and making copies and printing.  Once this guy need help with emailing important documents and I was able to help him print them out and email them. He was so happy before leaving he stopped by the desk to hand me something I looked down and notice he had given me twenty-dollars. It's is noted in the policy that we can not accept any that is monetary. I explained that I couldn't accept the money and that was very nice gesture.  Immoral- I once worked as a night and weekend supervisor and I worked 11 AM- 8PM Tuesday-Thursdays and 9AM-6PM Fridays and Saturdays 8AM-5PM. We all had this system called 995, that's when you skipped all your breaks that week and got off early on the last day you work that week. Well began to experience some changes with management and my weekend fell on Saturdays. Which everyone else got off early when it was their day to get off. So when it came to my early day my Manager told me that she did not think I could participate in 995 anymore because I was a supervisor and that they needed a supervisor present for most of the day on a Saturday. Even though she would leave early on Fridays with out her or the assist manger present leaving only employees during the work day by themselves. I felt that this was very immoral of her very very discriminated behavior she displayed.  Amoral- I worked in job I would called segregated because  the African American spoke and communicated to each other only and  the Whites did the same. My manager created and spread this throughout the workplace creating so much division among both parties by agreeing and taking the side of all white employees and faulting the African Americans. creating tension and making the environment very hostile.  she did this Intentional and did not consider any ethical factors. Indeed, I do agree that amorality Is a significant issue since it infers that there are people that are incompetent with regards to making moral decisions whether its personal or business related.  2. From your personal experience, give two examples of ethical dilemmas. Give two examples of ethical dilemmas you have experienced as a member of an organization. 1. I had a co-worker who was giving free copies away to patrons without charging them that accumulated to a great amount of money that had to be accounted for. Which made the policy very strict due to their unethical behavior. 2. One of our coworkers was absent from work a few days and it turned into a couple of weeks. Well the rumor was out that they were ill and was hospitalized.  When they came back to work they were very upset that their absence had not been kept confidently and that the manager had told a friend of hers and that friend told someone else which was spreaded around the organization. Which results in breach of conflicts in the HIPPA law.  3. Is it an exaggeration to question the ethical implications for business of cell phone and text-messaging use? Discuss both sides of this issue.   No it is not an exaggeration to question the ethical implications of using a cell-phone for business. Technology has heightened expectations for speed of feedback, people want answers and they want them now, and in order to fulfill this desire, many employees use their phones when they should not. On the other hand, employers should hire employees that are smart enough to understand the dangers of operating their phone while driving and thus the liability is on the employee, not the business.   4. Differentiate between a bribe and a grease payment. Give an example of each. The difference between a grease payment and a bribe is the payment recipient’s motivation to act. With a grease payment, the recipient was going to perform the duty already, but will now do it faster, or at a higher level of quality. In the case of a bribe, the recipient is only fulfilling the request because they are receiving a large sum of money. 1. An example of a grease payment is giving a restaurant hostess $20 to move your name up higher on the seating list. 2. An example of a bribe is paying a senator $20,000 to vote for a bill that supports your company’s business practices.
