This part of the assignment requires you to undertake the following tasks:
TASK DELIVERALBLE CHECKLIST Weighting
out of
100%
TASK 1 A reflection on of your professional and academic experiences to date 20%
TASK 2 An audit of the skills you have gained from them 15%
TASK 3 A career / action plan 20%
TASK 4 A Curriculum Vitae geared towards a job advertisement chosen by you 30%
TASK 5 A Covering letter geared towards a job advertisement chosen by you 15%
NOTE You are required to ensure that your work conforms to the reporting standards
expected at this level.
It is divided into two items – Item 1 is about career planning and item 2 is about creating job
related collateral
Skills Audit and Action Plan
TASKs 1-3 relate to you and the skills you have developed to date.
TASK 1: The Reflection
This should NOT just state facts and describe experiences. Instead, you should write a
reflective discussion of your experiences. Don’t underestimate the value and impact of
activities that you have engaged with. Re-visit the reason (the rationale) for undertaking
the activity, the skills and knowledge that you developed as a consequence, and the
impact that resulted for you as a professional. Consider any key challenges that you
encountered and how these were overcome. In addressing these challenges, what did
you learn about yourself?
TASK 2: The Skills Audit
Summarize your reflection with an evaluation of your skills and experience. This will
benefit from some categorization and grading e.g. categorize by personal skills, technical
skills, professional skills etc. and grade your skills on a scale of 1-5. Use a tabular format.
TASK 3: Career Goals and Action Plan
Find out what the possibilities are (include any relevant collateral e.g. Job advertisements
in your portfolio) and sketch a career plan for placement, graduation etc.
Focus on empowerment – by reviewing the past and identifying gaps in your skills &
knowledge with respect to fulfilling your career goals and state how these will be bridged.
Make a detailed plan showing what you need to do to achieve your career goals with
timescales and requirements.
Job Related Collateral
You cannot prepare a CV and Covering Letter without a Job to relate them to! So with this in
mind, you are required to find an award-related Job Advertisement and associated
information. The job advertisement must be about coumputing related jobs in Ghana and must
not be more than two months old. This will need to be approved by your tutor as being related
to your award. Refer to this as you complete tasks 4 and 5. (Note: Add the chosen job
advertisement information in an appendix to part of your portfolio of work).
TASK 4: The Curriculum Vitae
Find out what you can about modern views of CV formatting and choose one which you
feel suits you and the career you have chosen. Everything in your CV should be presented
in the most positive light and every opportunity to tailor to the job advertisement
provided. You need to write a short paragraph of about 300 words explaining how you
have tailored your CV and decisions you have taken about the content and format.
Presentation is everything!
TASK 5: The Covering Letter
The covering letter should have the requisite paragraphs with no grammatical or spelling
errors. Care should be taken to ensure that it is laid out as a formal letter and that you
select appropriate fonts and highlighting. In addition to the tutorial work in this area you
should make your own investigations.
