I am a  Researcher  on this project    You will have young adults with Autism and Down syndrome looking at your website.  **********For this group project, you will need to provide research on the following: 1)Best practices in teaching someone with the disability that you have selected as your focus for your audience.  2)Best practices for communicating with someone with the disability that you have selected as your focus for your audience.  Any sources that you used to gather information will be part of your works cited. You need 3 sources, but you can have more than 3.    An outside link is a link to a website for an organization that is either connected to your project or relates to your project. The group leader is responsible for emailing the group sheet to me no later than Sept. 17 at 5pm This group will need to decide on a culture for your theme This group will need to select a disability that is your target audience for your activities. Autism or Down syndrome are the best fits since that is the audience that will see your project. Selecting Group Roles Group Leader – Is responsible for scheduling and arranging group meetings, contacting the group to make sure everyone is doing their work, providing any needed information to the Instructor. This person should also create the page with general information about the project for the website and the page listing the members and their responsibilities. Website Designer – Is responsible for the layout of the website and placing everyone’s materials into the website. (Depending on the number of individuals in your group, you may decide to have 2 website designers.) Researcher – Is responsible for gathering the research that will go on the website, creating the works cited page, and deciding on the links for the works cited page. (You may have 2 or 3 researchers) Narrator – This is an optional position. The group member will do a short speech that is recorded and placed on the website to introduce the group and explain the project IN ADDITION TO a speech related to the project. What are the Researchers Researching? Websites for organizations that work with people with the disability of your focus and/or websites that focus on your selected culture would be good ideas for links. What is a narrator The Narrator is optional. The Narrator would agree to do a second video taped speech that could be inserted into the website. The Narrator would introduce the project by stating who was involved, what you did, and possibly some lasting reflections of the group about the project. Recap All information provided to this point is information for the group to use at your first meeting and to help you complete the Group Information Sheet. The sheet should be turned in by the Group Leader no later than Sept. 17 via D2L email to the Instructor. Presentations Each person in the group should prepare a craft/game/story/cooking demonstration/ dance or music activity that would be appropriate for an individuals with the disability that you have selected as your focus. Think of this website as a digital festival. Young Adults with disabilities are going to view the website and navigate it as they would a festival. At each stop (video), they should experience an activity that you are doing with them with the theme of your selected culture. How to Create the website Most students use the free WIX program https://www.wix.com/ Remember there are links to sample websites in the Content Section under Group Project. What do We do with the Website? Go to the Content section and then go to the Group Project area. In the group project area, you will see 2 files: YouTube video for uploading the website. This will show you the proper way to upload the website through e-portfolio to D2L Loading to E. This is written instruction on how to upload I am also happy to do a Zoom session with your group to help you upload the website. Evaluating Peers The last step is to evaluate your peers and load this to Dropbox. To do this, create a word document with everyone’s name and a percentage grade next to the person’s name such as: John Doe 98% Susie Smith 90% When evaluating, consider your classmate’s contribution to the project, participation, quality of his/her finished work and speech. If you give someone a significantly lower grade than the rest of the group, please provide an explanation. Proposed Timeline Group meets week of Sept 13 Leader turns in Group Info Form Sept. 17 Researchers provide information/research to all group members on best communication practices when presenting to people with disabilities and info on the selected culture by Oct. 1 Group works on their speeches and individual responsibilities Oct. 4-15 Speeches, links, research, all materials to web designer by Oct. 15 Web designer has draft of website finished for group to preview Oct. 22 Modifications made of website if needed and final website to all group members by Oct. 27 Website due in D2L dropbox through e-portfolio and Peer evaluations uploaded Oct. 29 by 5pm You are Finished Once you get to this point, you have completed the project! Congratulations!!! The project will live on your e-portfolio so that you can access it or use this project throughout your college career. A Final note Top Group Projects will receive recognition awards from the Board of Borderless Arts TN. One more thing for that resume! Students: Your group project is due Oct. 29.  It is time to begin to think about the specifics. If you have more than one researcher, you need to divide the research tasks.  One researcher should focus on research regarding the disability that you have selected and the other should focus on research for the culture that you have selected.  Both sets of research should be included in the website. The person who researches the disability that you have selected should share that information with the group as soon as possible. This information informs all of you about your audience.  You should select activities and present in such a manner that would be best for this audience.  You will have young adults with Autism and Down syndrome looking at your website. Remember that your presentations are mostly demonstration presentations.  One person may want to do an overview on the culture you selected. This person could explain the flag, where the country is located, the type of money the country uses, etc.  The other presentations should be crafts, games, songs or food that represent the culture. Think of your website as a digital festival.  Young adults with disabilities are coming into your digital festival to learn about the culture you have selected.  They will be learning about this culture by making a craft, learning a song, making ethnic food, etc.  I have provided examples further down in this email. Your group should get together soon and decide on your research and decide on the focus of each of your presentations. Look under "More" and you will find: · Our group (which lists the group and what each person did) · Sources (Their works cited) · Our Friends (the outside links) In a separate tab, they have their research. In a separate tab, they have "our feelings" which are their paragraphs. I really like this website's information better than the information in the website below, but this group did forget to put an "Information page" and the website below does include that information.   Take a look at this website:  https://dnd2m2.wixsite.com/mysite On the front page you see their mission which is the general information about their project Underneath that mission, click on "More Information" and you will see their research At the top, click on "Crafts and More".  In this section, you will see: · Introduction – this is a narrator.  You do not have to have a narrator, but this is what it looks like if you do · Sources – this is their works cited page · Want to Get Involved – these are their 3 outside links · Our group – they combined their list of participants with responsibilities and the paragraph from each person on the same page, which was fine. Watch the "Ghost Lantern" Speech.  He does a great job of telling individuals the supplies needed and then going through the process of making an item. This mostly pertains to those taking the Halloween/Harvest Fest or International Projects.   Take a look at this website:  https://scottcartersmith20.wixsite.com/website They were an international group.  You will see the types of activities they selected to represent Japan.   Once you have completed the website, it needs to go into your e-portfolio and then into D2L.  This is a simple process, but it does take a few steps.  Here are the steps to loading the website and a video showing how to do it.
